I don't know if we have different car specs but my trim all seems to be anodised with a matt finish and I just keep on top of it with whatever polish/wax I am applying to the car. It does have a few spots on it which is I suspect someone using something very caustic to clean the car with (I am the 2nd owner and were there before I got the car) but I think I would have to use ali-brite or something to remove the coating before I could polish them ?

By the look of it that menzerna polishing cream works well on fine scratches & hazing, but im not so sure it would work on the oxidisation that alot of us have, might give it a try though, thanks for the info Sam,and baz for the link.
Im definitely gonna go down the wrapping route at some point though,id like to go shadow chrome to match my wheels, was thinking of black, but after owning the car for a few months now,I think shadow chrome is the way to go.

My trims are in better than average condition before I purchased the Menzerna product, so if they've gone too far it may require something more heavy duty.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll try Menderza, but suspect I'll struggle. So it'll be on to the sandblasting :biggrin3:

I think mine may be saved with this stuff. Thanks for the info.

I guess it could also be used to revitalize exhaust tips too.

I picked up some of the Menzerna paste the other week and just used it now.

My trim was ok but was just starting to milk in places and this just has made it look like new again.

I did put some on the exhaust tips the other week and seems to also keep them clean and soot free.

Thanks for the heads up on this stuff guys.

I've also had a go with this stuff but I didn't touch it (applied by hand). Had a good 5-10 mins of buffing on a small area but to no avail so I think it's beyond resolution now so I may have to wrap it or replace it :-(.

Put some pics about the "problem".

The RS4 B7 window trims are matt alu from factory and not silver or chrome. Mine are still as they should but aluminium turns white
if treated with wrong chemicals. I believe some kind of acid treatment can fix them. (Oxalic acid)

First try to clean the lists with something that includes lemon (yes really).

The mat silver trim is painted. So any cutting polish will revive it, 3M Finesse It, T Cut, Autosol will do the trick. Autosol also gets your steel and exhaust tips looking mint, especially Milltek ends.

I have compared my Saloon's aluminium trims with an Avant and they are different. Mine feels like metal, whereas on the Avant looks and feel like it has been painted over. That is why I think the Menzerna Polishing Cream didn't worked on my car, but worked on others.

Did you use this on the trim strip by the boot and the grill surround as well?

Or does anyone know if it's safe to do so?

I saw a (non-RS) Avant yesterday and that had shiny trim and roof bars so possibly there are two versions of the silver trim.
