Just a bit quite :D
Buy the RS4 and stay here with us

SQ5 won't save a lot in fuel unless your motorway driving, my brothers got one.

B8 in comfort does change up as early as possible to Gear7 that way saving fuel,
but if you drive in sport the gears are held in a low gear with high revs but the change down is something else.

I Mainly drive in comfort with the sports exhaust on but when feeling the need for speed nudge the shifter down to activate S mode and Booom.

Have you test drove them yet? I was sold on my test drive after 5yrs of B7 that i thought i'd never sell.

If it was for me I would buy b8, I think I would try and find a good used example, can't see the point in buying new so late in production, your only going to take a big loss in depreciation
Was it the short non revving gears? agree on new, I would be looking for a 40-45k RS4
Was told that the SQ5 has a different Gearbox or something along the lines of that!!!

Good to hear regarding fuel and I do want to stick with an RS :bigblink:

I havnt test driven a b8 yet but know I will love a DSG style gear box - I drove my mates Octavia RS 1.4 supercharged/turbo and had great fun with the gearbox, mate that to an RS v8 and I cant see how I could not love it :biggrin2:

I own both. My wife drives the SQ most of the time and she loves it, prefers it to the RS because it is a nice high seat with plenty of torque, space, comfort and decent economy. To be honest they are not really comparable, very different cars, but if I could only have one it would probably be the SQ on the basis that it is a great all rounder, the RS has a few flaws (steering, brakes and economy), but I am very happy with it. Probably not what you want to hear mate, but tbh you won't go far wrong with either and forget the Macan, though it handles well it does't have the punch of the SQ, long waiting times and limited discount.

It's not as quick witted as the DSG box, but if you leave it in sport auto, it's very good
The example I'd use is if you're using the paddles, then it's easy to hit the rev limiter in the time difference between paddle tug and shift, where I never have that problem in an RS4

Slow reactions in your old age?! It's also down to the immense acceleration.

No discounts...but depreciation free motoring right now. Wait times are down too, especially for weasel. Diesel may be a bit slow but PH still thought it much better than SQ5. There's been discussions on this elsewhere, the whole car is in a different league to the Audi. Petrol S or turbo are quicker than the SQ5 if it's performance you're after.

That's very true actually. You're so thrown by the acceleration, that looking at the Rev counter is the last thing on your mind
I have both this week, so good for comparison

I was in exactly the same situation

The SQ5 was amazing, the way it pulls with a light touch on the juice is amazing - BUT - totally disconnected from the drive.

I had both cars for a weekend back to back, and on the way home from my brother in-laws (1.5hrs journey) I found myself alone with the rs4 with two kids and my wife asleep. That was the moment that sold me, all of a sudden was a car that didn't just fit the family, it suited me too. At that point the rs4 became the perfect family car for us:

My Wife can drive it
My Kids are comfortable
I can lug stuff
Dogs are possible
House move is possible

and have fun at the same time.

I'd not bother with an sq5, i'd go diesel macan. The RS4 won it, and won it big time.
Zero Drama

Lucky you, love to drive them two back to back.

After reading all your comments I am now thinking keep the b7 rs4 for a year and get the rs6 I Really want next year when they have come down nearer the 50k mark.

Truth is i think that whatever I bought now would be a stop gap to the rs6, TBH the b7 will probably also hold its money better than sq5 and b8 in the meantime.

Some good points and debates here though gents :beerchug:
