Just a quick share of my recent experience.
I developed a very annoying vibration under braking a month or so ago that only occurred under intermediate brake pressure (nothing when light or hard) that was driving me crackers.
I got the wheels off and took some measurements that showed the discs had only lost 1mm through wear and that they had warped by approx 0.4mm through a rotation so it seemed a shame to bin them when they wernt very old.
A bit of goggling turned up this site where you can search for a local agent that uses pro-cut on car lathes to skim your discs - http://www.skimmydiscs.co.uk/
I rang my local agent who are listed as a standard agent and unfortunatley the equipment can only correct a max 360mm disc however after looking a little further afield a premier agent confirmed that they can treat discs up to 416mm.

So i dropped my car in this morning and had the discs skimmed and i have approx 1mm of wear left till i reach the serviceable limit on the discs and they feel like new.
Very pleased at just £54 for both front discs inc VAT

Re: Disc skimming
Where was this? I've had skimming done before (at home) and it was a damn sight more expensive than that. At that price, it's a no-brainer. I paid something like £120 for the fronts of my B7.
Believe only the man who has nothing to gain from what he says.

Re: Disc skimming
I used a garage in Bristol but being a franchise I assumed the cost would be pretty standard. It's only 9 minutes per disc after all.
Re: Disc skimming
I just got quoted £162 to do the fronts by Perfect Touch in Hoddesdon via the skimmydiscs website, for £54 you got a great price!

Re: Disc skimming
Crikey; I wouldn't have thought it would vary so much.
I used Westerleigh Car Centre in Bristol; they did try to talk me into buying new discs and pads which was annoying as i explained my findings and that a skim would be within tolerances.
