Carbon intake Vs standard airbox power.

Post by RossDagley » Fri Feb 06, 2015 4:11 pm

Full MRC stage 2, milltek, fully decatted etc, with carbon intake (revolution/pipercross) = 443ps
As above, but with stock airbox and hiflow filter (MRC) = 449ps.

No other changes.

Interesting but not entirely unexpected.

For 6ps loss I'd take the carbon intake all day long. Slight warmth in ambient temperature will give you more losses.

I haven't yet seen the graph as I've not picked up the car - but the area under the curve is where I think it'll be most interesting. In the real world of course, it's not about the peak number but the torque spread under the curve - I'll post when I have it :)

While I think that's the expected outcome, those figures are probably well within the margin of error for dynos. Less than 1.5%

I also think that out on the open road the difference is negligible, as there will be no heat soak like you get in a rolling road situation.

In this article the Gruppe M filter actually came out with better peak figures over a panel filter - http://www.superstreetonline.com/how-to ... n-drop-in/

Would be good to test a Gruppe M vs the replica ones to see if there is much difference.

I've come in from a spirited drive, pulled straight onto the drive and popped the bonnet, and parts of the carbon intake are too hot to touch so I'd be fairly sure it does make a difference on the road. Moreso with the CAF - when used with a carbon intake it's pointed in the general direction of the air filter yet when used with the stock airbox, it's actually attached to the (perm open) trumpet so no engine bay air can get in at all - you can only pull air from outside the car.

Regardless - as you say, to some the noise is worth the loss. I'd 100% keep it if it wasn't for the fact I cant actually hear it any more over the exhaust :p

im with mike!!! for 6ps im with the pipecross all day, gunna have to be a big drop in power over standard box for me to get rid of mine, the noise alone from it makes up for 6ps loss, mine is going into mrc soon so will see what I make

This ^

In the summer the difference will be much more apparent. Either way, after driving home yesterday I can't really notice it missing noise wise so it's no loss now :)

Yeah you won't hear it with your exhaust.

Still looks cool though.

I've been playing around with the Torque app to see the intake temperatures and see what sort of temps the car starts to feel sluggish but as its been very cold and I've only done short journeys recently I've not noticed any change yet.

In other news mike - I've been chatting to dean. Decided against your old tubi after seeing the rolling road day video... Brutal. :/
