ring trip
Re: ring trip
On the tourist days it really is as simple as just turning up and buying a lap ticket then off you go. There's very very few rules actually enforced
Re: ring trip
yep, as easy as that - it really is liberating after the usual H&S we have to endure over herenicp2007 wrote:On the tourist days it really is as simple as just turning up and buying a lap ticket then off you go. There's very very few rules actually enforced

Yeah it is a true petrol head heaven!
Your lad will love it over there. I've took my brother in law a few times and the first time I think he was only 15 there was no issues taking him out then and he just loved being in the car park with the variety of cars in there.
Infact my mrs loves it there more than any of us! She gets exited as soon as she smells the fuel and burning rubber!!
There's a pic of me in my van on the track in my welcome thread I've just posted

Re: ring trip
But the 'off you go' part is often a case of waiting for the circuit to be reopened after a crash. Lots of giddy people then lined up to go back out can equal mayhem.nicp2007 wrote:On the tourist days it really is as simple as just turning up and buying a lap ticket then off you go. Re: ring trip
Yeah it can be hit and miss how busy it is. I've been for short weekend trips there and done 12 laps but last year I went for a week and bought a 12 lap ticket only to have to sell 4 laps in the hotel bar the night before I left because the track spent more time closed than it was open.
But every time bar that one trip that I've been it's not as busy as you'd think and it's quite easy to get your laps done.
Most drivers will respect your space on track to and as long as your letting faster drivers past they will happily wait till after some turns to pass you. But there is a few nobs there too!

Re: ring trip
Week day evenings are much quieter that the weekends as you only really get the die hard guys there. Weekends fill up with tourists and obviously locals who are off work etc

Re: ring trip
Added bonus is that if you go mid week there also the chance of getting on the GP circuit. It used to be a Wednesday and €25 for 15 mins.
Weekend, especially bank holiday or event weekends, are just mental. The place can be shut more than its open due to crashes etc.
When you do go though it will be an epic experience for you and your boy

Re: ring trip
It was Wednesday evenings last year. And if you buy a multi lap ticket 8 or 12 etc as it works out cheaper that way you can use that for the gp track too. A 15 min session takes 1 Nordschleife lap off the card.

Re: ring trip
quick question regarding the insurance
do i need to be covered to drive the ring by my insurer becuase im seeing that some policies are worded such that the ring is not covered ive not checked my own policy but im presuming once i tell them im going to eurpoe that the ring will be in the small print as no cover
do i get seperate cover for the ring then but use my current insurer to drive in europe

Re: ring trip
You have 3rd party cover by law as last time I check Germany is in the EU
But your insurer will more than likely have in their t&c that the Ring or words describing it shall be excluded
Therefore if you drive on the ring you are breaking their t&c. In the event of an incident, they will cover 3rd party costs and then sue you to recover the costs
Ergo you have no insurance.
You cannot get separate comprehensive insurance for a TF
You can prob get 1st party insurance for your car, but that's prob the least of your worries if have an off
Just don't crash

Re: ring trip
Track repairs are the biggest worries!!!
As said. Don't crash is the best option.
Dial it down a bit! I've been going 7/8 years on the trot and some times twice a year and my lap times are getting quicker and quicker but they would still be classed as slow!! I don't care though I feel safe and I enjoy it!!
The UK is actually the only insurance that doesn't cover the ring. All the other European countries actually cover it as it is technically a toll road. There is a rumer that there was a huge crash that was caused by a english man back when cover was still available and the payout was into the millions and that's when UK insurance company's decided to stop covering it.
