Still hunting for one..... sigh..!

Post by it_s8 » Mon Jan 12, 2015 11:30 am

So my quest to find a 'nice' C6 continues....

I've conceded that finding everything I want won't happen, but even so there still seems to little to choose from out there.

Yes, I'd love adaptive cruise, keyless, a sunroof, black leather, a facelift with 3G and preferably under warranty. and yes, a plus edition would be the cherry on top. all at a reasonable price, with sensible miles. Hmmm... ! Not going to happen.

So, I have 2 questions:

1) Other than Autotrader, audi.co.uk, pistonheads and ebay is there anywhere else these tend to pop up for sale ?

2) If anyone has anything tidy at all they are thinking of moving on or trading in then please give me a shout. I don't need it washed, serviced and presented, I'm more bothered about spec, clean history, mileage and price than I am about what it looks like 'today'. I've seen a few forum members have offered up cars pre p/x in the past so thought I'd pre-empt anyone who was considering it....

Anything to get a step ahead in this game as its truly exhausting hunting these things down.....

Thanks in advance.

Ian

Thanks for the reply..... I did glance at that one when it appeared the other day. Cream leather is my least preference, as is blue bodywork, but that wouldn't stop me if everything else was spot on.... Its the Lack of both adaptive cruise and 3G and slightly higher mileage than some of the other examples I'm looking at probably sees the nail in the coffin for this one.....

Yes cream leather is not the greatest of colours, price wise though its not a bad example really.

Given the choice of what C6's are available atm, this one would certainly be up there.

Yup, I've checked that one out more than once. Low miles, ok spec and 3G MMI. I'm not overly keen on the quad pipes. I appreciate they serve a function in the MTM upgrade, but im not looking for a head turning amount of noise, more the wolf in sheeps clothing of the oem setup.

Still, its a lot easier to change an exhaust than it is to fit a sunroof.... :bash:

Shaks have got a few in at the moment, and being relatively local I wonder if I should take a trip down there and see if I feel the love when sat in them.....

Thanks for the links, although they are cars I've seen before, it is useful to go back and revisit in detail...

Ideally, I wanted the slightly more modern feel of the 3G MMI, so was preferring the 2009/2010 model. Mileage circa 50,000 is a bonus, but happier for higher miles if its cheaper, or happy to pay more for a lower mileage car.

Prefer as standard as possible. I wouldn't hold any value in any modifications on a car, but it wouldn't necessarily prevent me buying it either.

As the pool of choice is limited in the UK, I decided to compromise my spec by prioritising items on my shopping list, which looks something like this:

Adaptive Cruise - 5 points
3G MMI - 4 points
Sunroof - 3 points
Advance key, 'plus model', TV, Still under Audi warranty, ceramics, - 2 points each
Leather dashboard, exclusive leathers, Soft close, blinds, reversing camera, privacy glass, twin pane - 1 point each

Bucket seats - minus 2 points as I don't find them comfortable and would seriously have to swap them out
Non carbon or piano black trims - minus 2 points as I don't want an RS6 that looks like an A6...

Then award some extra points for how much less than £40,000 it is, and how much under 100,000 miles it is.

There is no point preference for colour, bodystyle or age.

Its a very personal list, and I'm sure other people would have very different priorities, but in theory any car that scores over 30 is a serious contender, and over 35 is very much a case of 'buy it now'

So I guess other than the usual 'HPI clear' and solid service history, there aren't any specific 'must haves'....

Wow

Don't want much fella!!

Plenty about on piston heads and Autotrader.

Must be something that you like?

Mileage isn't a concern with these cars so don't get hung up on that.

I wouldn't hold your breath on buckets so you will be fine as they are rear.

There was a black with Ramics the other day at Aberdeen audi with only 17k miles for 35k, wasn't on their long at that price.

Mine's perfect, and I am practically being given a brand new M5 through work, but I still can't sell up - sorry!

As you know, it's a really hard spec to find, and I love the keyless, ramics, radar cruise, twin pane, high beam assist, the alcantara headlining, I even happily sat and watched Home Alone on digital TV while my friend drove back from Brussels LOL, there's a DVD player too with a fabulous Bose surround stereo. The soft close is pointless on the C6, as unlike on an A8, the doors aren't aluminium and are so heavy they close first time 99% of the time.

The only thing I'd change about mine is the colour, Daytona is on every S Line going now, give me Missano/Phantom/Sepang- basically, anything over Daytona.

If mine didn't have all the options I'd have sold up a long time ago, it's the combination of all these luxuries and power that I love.

I am/was hung up on mileage. The only two things that concern me in Rs6 ownership are the engine oil seal, and the DRC. Everything else is fairly standard stuff. My plan was to slap an Audi warranty on whatever I buy for at least the first year and not worry about it. I worried that a high miler is (a) more expensive to put the warranty on and (b) is more likely to have non audi gaps in the service history making the warranty either void or hard to claim on - Thoughts on this would be appreciated.....

I've looked at your old car a few times, but really its the polar opposite of what i'm looking for in terms of spec, and modifications..... I bet it goes like stink though.... :D

You think that, but the buckets are the thing that stopped me buying this one:

On the other one, I was set to fly to Aberdeen. Really, I was. Turned out it was a computer glitch that accidently advertised a car that had been sold previously and it wasn't in fact in stock. It was a rare example of where the spec was so awesome, that really the fact it was a 2008 model year simply didn't matter.... It scored 36 on my chart.... <mega sigh>... :drink:

You could probably agree a deal to sell the buckets on that one with cash your way.

I believe the Audi warranty could be more expensive after 60k as until then AUK still pay 100% of the parts cost and Mondial the reduced labour rates...

The Audi warranty isn't bad though, for me, capped at 15k fully comp with no excess and Audi Assist it comes to £1293.30, I paid £1,600 last year for the same cover...
