what a laugh!! audi service costs...

Post by geordie jay » Tue Nov 18, 2014 7:11 pm

had me car 3 months now and loving the car.as this is my first experience with owning a audi im pretty much a virgin on the RS scene.so decided to go to my local Audi to book her in for a service and roughly get a price.for a oil and filter change, air filter and pollen filter and a inspection the total cost came to £498.63 wtf!!!..then I proceeded to ask how much would it be with spark plugs.....£769 altogether...did I just hear you right £769!!!! yes that's right....pmsl you having a laugh aren't you!!!!
so after about 5mins of talking to her she comes up of a price with 30% off which was the same price that I had before I said spark plugs lol

this is the breakdown

job details............................. variant............................. Qty...... labour...... parts....... total

replace air filter...................... overlap in service time ........ 1........ £30.00....... £22.55...... £52.55

inspection with oil change........... standard........................... 1...... £195.00....... £199.34..... £394.34

pollen filter............................ standard filter................... 1....... £15.00........ £18.34...... £33.34

spark plugs............................. service time .................... 1........ £105.00...... £127.10...... £232.10

so with vat its now down to £498.70 with plugs..which was original quote :bash:
so I waded in again and asked her if she could do anymore when she proceeded to say I will have to ask her manager..to my surprise she came back with a even better price of
£385.30 wtf!!! so from £769 I get it to £385 which is half original quote.where do they get these initial prices from its mad !! so she said is that ok......................................................................well I thought do I wade in again :bigblink: :biggrin3: I said yep that's fine..so it going in sat morning for some love and attention :beerchug: ..so it just goes to show if you not shy you could save a canny few £££££££,s....but at the end of the day I want that audi stamp so would of paid initial price if I had to lol..
can I just say aswell that they wouldn't let me bring my own oil to use for service or plugs???

cheers jay

£385 for a full service incl air and pollen plus plugs is fecking superb!

Just make sure when you drop it off Saturday they know the proper Castrol goes in and nothing else - both times I had my old S4 serviced this was printed on the service sheet

Insist on taking your own oil, Jay - that's complete horse not allowing you - as long as it's up to spec; they clearly want to have your trousers down on £18 Per Ltr for Edge...

They must be hit and miss Jay. I had a problem with mine not long ago. Anyway, it boiled town to a coil. Audi sold me a genuine coil cheaper then my mate could get me an aftermarket one. He has his own garage and was trying to diagnose the problem, it was almost twice the cost for an aftermarket. Audi coil was 30 odd quid. Off the top of my head, plugs were £170 fitted. They advised front and back disks as they would. £1700 all in which I didn't think was so bad considering it was from the dealer. Could have probably haggled them down as well.

Jay that's a cracking price. I've just paid £489 at York for a service and plugs. Didn't include air or pollen filter but I replaced the pollen myself a month ago and it's an ITG air filter. Wish I'd asked for a discount now!

Not wishing to start up the old oil debate that took over Jay's other thread (although passes the time :bigblink: ) but should I be concerned Neil if my invoice says Longlife 3 ? I always used Edge to top up with this car.

All Audi dealers price match, and I've only ever paid indie rates or less whether that be Audi or BMW - you need to negotiate. Now I pay even less than that at Audi, £30 p/h and parts at cost (less than TPS). Makes running the RS easier. :P

Be careful if it's underpowered when you get it back as apparently it's 'down to having new plugs fitted'.
That's the load of bollocks they're now trying to have me believe.
I'm fast losing patience with them now but will have to wait until it's back from getting its wings on to take things further.
