seat retrimming in Surrey/Hampshire?

Post by Mr Footlong » Sat Nov 08, 2014 7:11 pm

Hi guys

Quickish one. I am sick of the heavily worn and uncomfortable bottom right bolster on the driver side bucket seat and the right side bolster is suitably worn too.

I spoke to a couple of places in Surrey but wasn't convinced by what I heard from them. I popped in to Spellbound cars in Farnham as they are thirty secs away from my office. They have an in-house trimmer and I am going back with the car on Monday as I was in the 6 when I popped in.

I have a feeling they are going to be pricey, which is OK if the repair is perfect, but at what point do I call it a day and approach Audi for new bucket seat leather? It is the only part of the interior that isn't perfect really.

Any input or experienced recommendations for trimmers in Surrey/Hampshire appreciated, thanks :).

Now you say that but, this is their sister site -http://www.leathercarseatspecialists.co.uk

I spoke to them on Friday and it sounded like they had never done a RS4 seat before but they made all the right noises and reckoned they could do it all, including possible padding repair, in a morning! I thought this was too quick and was put off.

I am happy to wait for a job to be done properly. For example, our Smart Brabus Cabriolet has been in the workshop for almost five weeks now being totally pulled apart and reassembled/made good.

Their examples of work on their fb page had me a little concerned too as I was seeing creases where I wouldn't want see them in some of it,but maybe that's just me..

Have you had direct experience with them?

I've been in their workshop and seen some of the classic ferraris they have done and was impressed!!
I was told by a mechanic friend they have a good reputation, best thing to do is drop in and look for yourself

Thanks for that, I will get a quote from Spellbound and as soon as I get a chance I will go down in the car and see for myself if the vibe is right at your guys.

Anybody remember how much the official skin is from Audi? Around £400 seems to stick in my noggin.

If you want to be 100% save you can order the seat covers from the factory, Upper & lower seat covers are separately available.

I bought and fitted the lower parts on my bucket seats and was very happy. The only thing is if you don't replace all parts (2 lower + 2 upper) you will notice difference in shiny, leather color and seam color.

In my case I have add a bit of shiny to match the rest of the interior. (Swissvax has leather fixer's in both ways: reduce shine and increase shine)

I went to spellbound a few months back and had a look round the facilities and the triming section and as very impressed with the work they were doing (the whole place is pretty cool tbh)

I got a quote for having both of my seats redone (parts of both needed in my opinion a bit of work) and would have gone with them and had work done but of course sold the car before I got the chance :(

I saw your car the other day mate - I also work in fham and was visiting a customer slightly to the left of where you car was parked on tuesday morning :)

I went to Spellbound today and they were very nice and professional. After meeting the trimmer and showing him what I wanted, he was confident that he could replace both leather bolsters, repair/replace the damaged bottom right bolster foam from the lazy previous owners and do a pretty good match on the colour without having to border in (which would be extra). They would also tighten up the stretched leather ass groove while they were at it.

This is where they differed from the Addlestone guys. They estimated close to two days to do the job properly, at an estimated cost of about £800 plus the leather. I wasn't sure whether to be a bit disappointed at the price or happy with it. However, when you factor in the cost of the new skins from Audi, then the fact that the bolster foam is shot and it would all need refitting, I am probably going to go with it.
