B8s will not fare well depreciation wise. They were being sold at 18% discount to its lets not forget!
I agree. B8 figures are certainly not great and set to be going down quite quickly
Only time that'll change is when it's out of production and the consumer can no longer spec their car and still get a hefty discount
Even then, the prices will already be low
B7's were similar initially

The b7 was around when the whole prestige and top end market took a major battering :bigblink: was a fab time to buy :biggrin3:

To be fair the b7 faired way better than the equivalent m3.
If you wanted a fast prestige 4 door car you had no options... Now there are loads.

So with the B8 being a 5dr & the only competition being the smaller, older C63......

But are they really dropping heavily? Does anyone have a link to stats on residuals that are factual?
It's all torque talk.

I think only in relation to list price
The reality is that not many paid list, so the residuals proportionate to actual purchase price aren't actually so bad.

Which is about to be replaced by the newer shinier C63.

M3 is also a close enough competitor with 4 doors.
Jaguar XFR in there too (and estate option), Cadillac CTS-V (at push), VXR8 GTS... loads of them now.

I think the c63's the main competitor in estate guise
The others, much less so as the target audience for the RS4 is the 'lifestyle' type of person that needs an estate
I appreciate that this forum is largely made up of enthusiasts who cherish their cars and view them as something special, but I'd suggest the main market for RS4's is people that don't know much about cars, but want a fast estate and use it as an everyday car with little regard to ultimate steering feedback or cutting edge dynamics. They're the ones buying into the image and would possibly only want an estate version, which rules out the m3
The Cadillac and vxr estate are B.O.S .in my opinion , and sell in such small numbers as a result
The Jag is generally for the older gentleman, that again, is buying into that particular brand image

If AMG had brought in 4wd to the uk, it'd be a very serious competitor for the RS4

I think that the effect of the new C63 will be positive on the RS4, especially when you look at the prices the MB have released today. A nicely spec'd 2015 C63s is going to be close to £75/80k. That would make me look at either a deal on an RS4 - creating demand or possibly an RS6. With the RS4 being close to end of life when the C63 comes out I think prices will stabilise, possibly rise a little even. Who knows, if I had a crystal ball, I'd not has an RS4, I'd have loads of cars from my lottery win....

BOS?
But the vxr8 is a hilarious car to drive. Dynamically no where near what the German marques are however for sheer driving fun it is actually good. But maybe not at the wrong end of 50k

Sales aren't exactly massive for the rs4. Not even 500 this year in the uk.

BOS = diplomatic term for Bag Of <beep> :)

My experience of a VXR thingy was in a Holden Monaco where it was so flexible that everytime you pitched it into a corner on the brakes, the whole thing twisted so much the interior light came on as it thought the door was open, and the fit of the glovebox was so bad that the light in it got you in the eye as you drove at night
Big torque and no traction is fun for smokey burnouts, but having it wheelspin at 80 on a motorway slip road is just flippin annoying and makes for slow progress
Good noise though

The monaro was pretty shocking. I think the vxr8 being longer wheel base helped a lot. Didn't find it flex that much.
8mpg though.

I've heard from a few people that they've much improved them over the years, but the Holden experience ruined it forever for me
8mpg is good going though. I had a Tvr that did similar :)
