Unless you know someone that can rebuild a 5HP24A gearbox (cheapest option) then a refurbed replacement box is the next cheapest option at £3500 from either Unit20 near Chester or AMD in Essex. The gearbox itself is only £1500 but it's the labour that's a killer (nearly 24hrs worth). After that its MRC/Audi with a brand new gearbox for around £7500+ and after that is a custom upgraded one from the US (517 trans etc) at around £8-10K in labour.
