Help: Bridgestones on my new RS4?

Post by jjdsyd » Fri Sep 05, 2014 9:54 am

Guys - need your urgent help. I have just taken delivery of a new RS4 here in Oz. Car looks great but there was one surprise that I was not expecting: the tyres.

Every RS4 and RS5 I have seen, and all of the other RS cars they have here have Pirelli P Zeros. But, my car shipped with Bridgestone S007's. None of the people at the dealer have ever seen them. But they are very excited about them.

They appear to be a more severe tyre with less lateral grooving. I am worried that they will be too harsh from a ride quality pov. And, possibly not sufficiently all weather...

They have offered to let me drive the car for the weekend and swap them with another new RS4 on Monday that has P Zeros if I want to do so.

Any thoughts on the two tyres? I have only driven the car about 20km so far and I must say the ride quality seems pretty good so far. But have not driven the car hard at all.

I attach photos of the trade pattern on each - the first is the S007 and the second is the P Zero

Would appreciate any guidance.

+1 - I am sure Audi would have tested them.

Thanks guys. Yes I am sure Audi has tested them and they are high quality and up to spec. Just curious as to whether anyone else has them and can compare to the PZ's. A couple of the guys at the dealerships were calling them "semi slicks". So perhaps they are more high performance but less of an all around tyre? Took the car for another quick drive and they seem pretty good so leaning towards keeping them

calling the 'semi slicks' is beyond stupid. They're just decent road tyres, they look very similar to the Mitchelin pilot sport 2/3/SS which are very good.

edit: equivalent to Mitch pilot super sports by the looks of it, so they will grip like crazy but may wear a little quicker than a harder compound tyre. It's a summer tyre so just be careful about hitting standing water at speed.

I'd keep the Bridgestones and would never swap them for P Zeros, count yourself lucky :-)

My RS4 (B7) came on P Zeros and I have to say they are the worst tyres I've ever had in over 40 years of car ownership - no grip in wet or dry and ridiculously short life. Was glad when I wore them out in 9k miles and got some decent tyres put on (PS2s).

I had the PZeros on my first b8 initially (I changed them out eventually for michelins), but they're not as bad as everyone says and miles better than those I had on my b7
All current deliveries (my current rs5 inc) come with the bridgestones, which I've found to be decent so far

Just been out to check mine and it's come with Pzeros :(

In fairness they've been better than the Conti's on the RS3 however i've not had chance to push it to limit points yet, It's been ok up to now tho.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to keep them. Ride seems great and no grip issues on tis very wet weekend.

Mine, that got delivered at end of July has Toyo Proxes T1 - A0

They seem ok over the 5,500 kms that I've done so far. And with Sydney having been pelting down for 3 weeks, a lot of that has been in the wet. However not much "ultimate grip" testing :bigblink:

My tyres to replace these would be Michelin Pilot Sport - which were really good on the R36

I am really liking these Potenzas. Biggest surprise is ride quality.

Do they have a marking on the side "A0"?

In the UK and most of europe the A0 marking means the tyre is made to the tolerances the factory designed for your car...

If it's there they're legit, I would say.

I find the Pirellis sticky in the dry hot conditions, and a slippery weasel sensation in the wet.
