Re: Help a cherished plate virgin

I recently purchased R56 WUF from the DVLA. I couldn't find it anywhere so called the DVLA about a year before I bought it as I wanted this particular plate and could see it wasn't in use. They checked their system and confirmed it wasn't on a car and told me that they'd release it for auction. I tried to 'buy it now' but they said as it was over 19 and didn't end in a 5 or a 0 then it had to go to auction.

About 6 months later it hadn't been released so I called again and got told that I had to wait although they couldn't tell me how long for. Several calls later and it was released for the next auction. What then happened was it also appeared on a number of the 'commercial' websites with a buy it now price of over £2,000, despite the fact that the DVLA owned the plate! I called one who told me I was wrong (despite telling them it was in the DVLA auction)!

I managed to get it from the auction for about £230 including the transfer and it's still the cheapest thing I've bought for the car!

It's my third plate through the DVLA and they're the only ones I'd use.

Nicely done!

I wanted to buy RS06 TRY but turns out the car has to be 06 plate or newer :(

I think I'll keep an eye out on the auctions in case something interesting comes up.

If you want a plate and can't see it then phone the DVLA and ask.

Regarding an earlier post, I bid online during the auction and telephoning was also an option. Not all of their auctions are in person either, some are only online but these are open for a few weeks!
