Pre-purchase advice / buyers guide

Post by RossDagley » Fri Aug 29, 2014 10:40 am

Hi guys

I'm test driving a C6 '6 avant tomorrow. Low miles, FASH, being sold by an Audi dealer. I come from an RS4 and know their pros and cons but I'm looking for some advice on what to look for on the RS6 if I pull the trigger.

Is there a buyers guide anywhere I've overlooked? A list of good bits to have and stuff to watch out for? (On the '4 it's oil coolers an DRC mostly!)

Cheers!

It's the watford one. I love black but I'm a sucker for sepang!

Yeah it looks nice that mate. I think member "gdavison" is one of the top guys on here to ask about the RS6

The Bath Audi one has 3G mmi, may be a better buy Ross.

When I bought mine I got it with about 50k on it, Things that went wrong was the oil sensor, needed new Rads and control modules for the rads as they would not turn off until the battery was dead, check brakes are in good nick and try haggle a service from them.

Thanks guys

Will be taking a warranty out on the 6 for sure. High mileage on my 4 meant I couldn't have a warranty and I've felt the burn over the last 6 months!

Warranty is the least of your worries - will come with a years warranty being Audi approved. Tyres, brakes and a recent service are the three main things to consider as above.

(and have a good look at the wheels - I'm not sure on the colour personally, but more importantly see if the finish itself is any good)

It was lovely. I came VERY close to pulling the trigger. The car was ideal to be honest, but we couldn't agree on the finance/price etc. The offer on my rs4 was beyond silly (it's a cat d due to seat theft and has high mileage but still...) we ended up being about 1000 quid apart.

The only thing that bothered me about it was it was "missing" in action when I first went to look at it last weekend - one dealership saying the other had it on loan (I went there, they didn't). When I drove this one, it's got 5k miles on it more than advertised, and they only took it in 7 weeks ago... So I don't know if it's been the local sales force "sales champion of the week"s ride every weekend ;)

The car was lovely though - pulled hard, close to the spec I want... Meh. Maybe if it's there in a few weeks and I have someone make me an offer I can't refs on the RS4...

Sounds almost there, Ross. The oddity with the milage would discourage me slightly but at least you've driven one now...

If yours is a Cat D then they will have to chuck it in the auction and so they can't give you any more than it will go for at auction else they are just giving you free money!
