Water leak passenger side any ideas ?

Post by coreydors » Wed Aug 20, 2014 7:32 pm

Hi guys I noticed my car had lost about half a litre of coolant so I decided to keep my eye on it.
Came out of work today and noticed a very small patch under the passenger side of the car, I had a feel around the under tray and it was wet directly behind the wheel and it was defo coolant.

Any ideas what this may be I was going to get the AA out but though I'd try here first.

Thanks

it could be the oil cooler plastic pipe which feeds the cooler with coolant, the location is on the driver side and due to the tray the water flows to the rear of it, that's the most common coolant leak on this car AFAIK and experienced.

Can't see it being much more than a perished hose or somesuch mate knowing you've had the Bufkin mod; opposite side anyway. Good luck

Had it up on ramps today could not find anything watched it closely whilst engine was running for a good 20 minutes but nothing.
Strange thing is there was evidence of a leak on the under tray.
I will keep an eye on it over next few days and update with anything i find.

There's a small 2in long rubber pipe within the small oil/water cooler on the right side of the engine (where the oil filter lives) which breaks down. The Bufkin Mod is a metal pipe with 4 O-rings which replaces the original pipe.

Bit of an update, it seems the leak is coming from the Radiator or the pipe that goes to the rad.
Got a mate coming round to pressure test it over the weekend so that will give more of a clear indication to exactly where it is leaking.
Hoping its just the pipe and not the rad, So fingers crossed

coreydors, did you come right with your coolant leak?

I have just gone through the process of finding and repairing a leak on my 2004 RS6. It turned out to be the radiator itself, something got caught between the fan and the radiator that put a gash through a number of rows in the radiator. I removed the radiator and had it repaired 20 pounds (R280) and they pressure tested it and gave it a fresh coat of paint. Have had the repaired radiator in for two weeks with no further leaks. So if it is the radiator it can very well be repaired for fairly cheap.

Cheers.
