I need to drive it more to find out to be honest. It does sound absolutely stunning though.

Video links to before and after as well as one of the car with no pipes. Hoping to get some better sound ones with a Go Pro at some point.

Took out the whole back box complete. Would have to get a custom built box and incorporate the valves somehow from the originals to have them.

I think it's better with no pipes

But I mean you could have replaced the centre sections and kept stock back boxes

This would have been good 1st step. If I was to start over again on my B7 I'd probably do this.

That looks like a complex system to replace from scratch, they've done well to get a new one in. Haven't listened to it yet though. I'll wait till I'm back in the UK with decent Internet speeds to view.

Gonna be at the Surrey RR day so will be interesting to hear it from outside the car under load. It's so different to your tubi rumore Mike. It's not as loud and has such a smooth sound all the way up the revs but has the base. Only time will tell where I will go from here with it.

I do get where you are coming from. It was so cheap to get it all done though I don't mind if I have to back pedal a bit but in all honesty everytime I hear it all I think is "that's how that car should sound".

I'm with you.

I've got a valved capristo on my R8, but the control module is buggered so it runs open 100% of the time....the only way it should be.

Gareth,

Your car now sounds as it should, there was a constant warble as you drove off last night and it sounded great. No drone in the car either when we went out so by all accounts it's close to perfect for me. As you know my only thoughts were that it would be nice to have the choice to turn it down when in town but as you say plenty of cash left for tinkering, knocks spots off Milltek prices and better sound imo.

I remember hearing your Capristo at GTI least year buddy. Hugely impressed by it and was a big improvement on standard. I reckon I just need a cold start map, with the increased revs on start I don't want to annoy my neighbours with it early in the mornings.

Cheers Mart. I agree with what you have said as I think there will always be those occasions when you want less sound but I have done the hard part finding the sound I want, now just need a selectable system to mute it now and again when it's early in the morning and when passing police :P

Okay so got outside the car today and had a buddy of mine drive it to have a listen to how loud it is. Very pleased with it as outside is a lot quieter than inside the car and really is a smooth note so no longer waiting for the police to pull me over. Inside the car is louder. Organised getting a quiet start (cold start) map as it does sound louder when idling on start and I am a neighbour friendly person.

Mart you'll be happy to know my exhaust guy can do flaps for it and sorting out getting the right ones now and they will be selectable independent of the car.

you need paint the backboxes black, through the tips as it will look poor if you can see the shiney chrome backboxes from the rear.

also not mandrel bent or larger pipe diameter so dont expect much of a gain,

however if your happy with the sound then thats fine, sounds good to me from my speakers but they dont really do exhausts much justice than in real life

Cheers for the input Rick. One of the problems we found with the RS5 when it comes to tube diameter is the central support. The gap they have left between it and the heatshield under the car is such that you are limited in that area as to what diameter pipe you can use unless you have that remade and adjusted lower down. I imagine it will be a little down on power as it has never had a carbon clean. I will eventually get it up to MRC but not sure if it would need the gearbox mapped at the same time as the engine and can't find anyone to do that. I am interested to see what it runs on the RR (Sept 6th) although I know these figures can vary wildly. I agree about the exhaust but am still deciding about whether to take the tips back to chrome or not.
