Need new clutch :(

Post by Shaners4 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 8:46 pm

Right folks I've done a few searches on here and need some advice still. My clutch on my saloon is really sticky and feels like its about to go! When I put my foot to the floor in any gear and dont touch the clutch it just revs the nuts of itself and goes no where, Whats likely to have going the whole clutch system and whats the best to put in and where can I obtain such a part from :boohoo:

Standard clutch is fine, euro car parts may have a deal on or try local suppliers,Luk is the oe manufacturer from memory,I would do the flywheel at the same time if I were you.Think I had mine done all in for around 1700

Them or TPS - they may discount as well. All the part numbers can be found via the FAQ sticky or check my recent posts - I uploaded part of my invoice last week which included the clutch items if you want to double check.

Mine is in for a clutch pre spa @ MRC [It's sticking and the car has 78k] - I shopped around for ages - uhm'd and arrr'd over LOBA / SMF v DMF - got 3 quotes AMD, MRC & 4 Rings + Stoke Audi for the parts - MRC came out matching stoke Audi for the parts cost [All OEM]

Doug mentioned that the master cylinder does not need replacing at clutch swap time unless faulty - all other components do.
Here is the list with prices:

OEM DM Flywheel £797.50 [SM is £370 + VAT]
B5 Needle Bearing £35.41
Flywheel Bolt 10x £27.90
B7 Friction Plate £110.30
B7 Pressure Plate £113.69
B7 Release Bearing £31.60
Clutch Bolt 6x £2.82
B7 Slave Cylinder £78.99
B7 Slave cylinder pipe £17.91

£1216.12 + VAT = £1459.34 parts
£652.80 [Incl. VAT] MRC labour [8 hrs]

My vote goes for JHM R-series clutch with stage 1 disc and a lightweight single mass flywheel.

I've been told the dual mass flywheels are harder to properly resurface and they can come apart and fail and cause major damage to the transmission when they fail.

It's one of those things, since its taken apart, might as well spend money now to upgrade and not have to worry about it for a long long time.
