I was recently talking to a friend of mine ( who also is a petrol head) and has tuned/modified many high performance cars, about wanting to supercharge my RS next year. He said why not just NOS it as for the cost of the supercharger kit plus installing it once you have done exhaust and stage two remap you could be close to the same power of a charger with NOS.
Not that i will as i want to charge mine ( as i love the sound pf a charger and think NoS is a cheap way of power) but just curious to see what peoples opinions are on nitrous ?

I don't have either but to add nearly 180 ps (420 to 600) from nos alone would be very tricky with a dry kit and I'm not convinced a wet kit is the best option with direct injection engines. So it would have to be a dry kit ideally with a feed per cylinder. Then you need to map it... You may be able to get it sorted onto the sport mode but maybe not.
I'd be surprised if the nos kit would be cheaper than 10 fully fitted.

I can't comment on a car but I helped a friend install one on a bike (carbed) and in terms of bang for your buck it was brilliant. Took us about a day to set up - the supplier had calibrated the nozzles so it was literally just basic plumbing - he said he had never had someone ask for more power than he could supply.
I think they are worth considering for occasional use as obviously you have to carry around a bottle, recharge it etc. although this was probably more inconvenient on the bike due to bottle size. Other good thing was when he was done with it he simply removed it and sold the kit to a drag racer.
I imagine a good kit nowadays would be much better as this was just wired into the throttle butterflies so a bit on/off - great fun but not ideal for a light bike on the road really although the only real issue was the bottle ran out too fast.

Yeah i understand where your coming from if it was a option i was going for it would have to be a individual cylinder feed kit, but suprisingly you can get a good kit for around 3-4K and theyre not hard to install.

I ran both [THUMBS UP SIGN] was fun 600nms from 2k rpm steadily rising to just before redline. I had a trick controller which allowed me to pick the nitrous injection points

My concern would be the mapping aspect - with such a high compression engine you need to get that spot on if aiming for supercharged levels of power

Nitrous will help with pre-ignition, so it being a high compression engine is less of an issue than with supercharging/turbocharging. I'd say just go with a wet kit, you'd have the added bonus of it washing your inlets!
It would be pretty interesting, especially with a good controller like S4Player.

you want the NOS at a set pressure to maintain it in a gaseous form and delivery to the engine properly.bam_bam wrote:Ignorant bam_bam is ignorant - why is a bottle heater required?
Also as you use the nos the pressure will naturally drop. Heating it will keep it running consistent for longer.
Its beats using a propane torch! (not unheard of)

Nothing to add on the techie front, but why do people refer to NOS when the chemical term is NO?
