Throttle or gearbox issue??

Post by N7BSE » Wed Jul 09, 2014 4:34 pm

Hi,

Me again 3 times this week :-) My car seems to be acting rather strange (but only at random) although becoming more noticeable. Generally after 20 minutes of driving when I come to a stop in traffic the car will rev sometimes as much as up to 2000 RPM and then settle back down again, driving to London and moving along in traffic is when I noticed it and it was doing it all the time? I know if I book it in with Audi they will take it for a quick test drive and most likely it wont do it. I wondered if anyone else has had the same thing? Not sure if it is gearbox software related or Throttle sensor? It doesn't do it when i drive it using the paddles in manual mode which is why I am thinking it's gear box related?

Cheers

I've had the same & mentioned it to my dealer when it was last in. At the time (2-3 months ago) there was an update available for the ecu, which obviously he loaded, but it still does it every now & then. It doesn't really concern me, but it does seem odd....
It's all torque talk.

Yes mine does it--feels like a sticking cable-if that's possible!

Ok, mine was doing this around town all weekend again. It would take a while before it would do it, eg the engine needed to be warm, but regardless of mode (Comfort, Dynamic or Individual) it would do it.

It doesn't bother me as I have the hill climb auto handbrake thingy, but it is odd.

Hi guys, Glad to hear I am not the only 1! I have had DMS remove the Remap and have it booked in for Friday. My dealer said not heard of this before but will check the software etc... Sometimes it feels like the throttle isnt quite right and could be a dodgy sensor? Also asked them to just complete an Oil and filter change (Coming from my BMW days) it amazes me it doesn't have an initial oil change they have quoted me £ 356.00!! Jesus that's liquid Gold being poured in there then! A car that revs short of 9000 rpm should have its oil changed at least every 10,000 mile surely. Lengster1 the Akropovic sounds amazing, I always thought they were a lot of money and hard to justify that price over a lot of the others, but I would now always look to go with them on any future purchases. I am liking the look of this Golf 400 if they make it...

Hi N7BSE - juts posted a comment against this on another of your posts - I had the same problem with my RS5.

Audi have swapped the Cam Position Sensors, Metatronic unit and clutch pack under warranty - seems to have fixed the problem. Hope they can sort yours soon.

Oh blimey, there was me hoping it was a software upgrade, that sounds quite a a lot of work. Did they spot this first time or did it take a number of visits to get to that? thanks for the heads up though.

Why do you want to change the oil/filter outside of Audi's recommendations? And if you do get an Indy to do it for oil plus a couple of hours labour.

I'm inclined to agree
If the guys that designed and built the engine think it's ok to 16,000 miles, then who am I to argue

Plus, I think I put probably 5 or 6 litres in during that time, so it wasn't all old

When I flagged it up they took the car in and sorted it straight away.

They actually said their was an Audi technical bulletin on the issue with this listed as the solution. They threw in the clutch pack for good measure but wasn't listed as a part to replace.

Hope they sort yours out anyhow.

Throttle or gearbox issue??

Post by Moonmonkey831 » Fri Jul 25, 2014 6:04 pm

I've had mine now since April and have done nearly 3k miles. I guess ever since I had it when you have it in sport mode and the gears change down, the whole car sort of shakes and you get a slight jerk forward and back when the kickdown occurs. Can anyone confirm if this is normal behaviour? Never had an RS before so not sure if part of the aggressive sporty trait?
