Suspension Help

Post by N7BSE » Mon Jul 07, 2014 2:27 pm

Hi, I'm a new member and loving this site. I am keen to look at lowering my RS4 and to look at fitting KW3 coilovers. I have heard they can work with the dynamic ride settings, and can even be adjusted via the iphone app. I live in Newbury and cant find anyone locally (50 miles) who can supply and fit these, Also like some advice on spacers and think the rears could do with 20mm.

Anyone fitted the KW3's and also who did they buy them from and fitted them? thanks

Hi
I can't help directly, but have you tried MRC ?

Would love to see how Aston cherry red looks if you can get a pic up ?

Don't know anyone on here who's done that, but I think this could transform the cars steering feel, go and do it :beerchug:
And post up the results after :nodder:

Got KW3 coil overs on my R36.

They work well, but no ride control on the R36 so needed an extra button.

Only comment which may well differ on the RS4 installation is that I've had the wifi/Bluetooth/whatever module changed and relocated and rebooted etc etc a number of times as sometimes the iPhone will connect and sometimes it just won't.

Individual control from the iPhone app is a set condition for rates but I'm assured that the 3 standard settings of Comfort, Sport and Sport+ actually change damping with a speed variable factor.

Now the push button controller, which just toggles through the 3 settings and changes colour with each setting is having stroboscopic conniptions and may well result in me having the epileptic fit !

If I had my time again I wouldn't have bothered with the wireless control module and it's expense/urn reliability.

As for the KWs - ride well, handle as well as the new OEMs (possibly no better), have sagged just a little so looks a bit slammed (reasonably appealing) and have the variable option ... But don't bother with comfort.

In comparison the standard RS4 B8 with dynamic suspension rides and handles better in comfort and in comfort goes over our Sydney speed humps with much better aplomb (than the R36 did with standard or KW suspension) and does much better in other settings handling wise - mind you this was during a test drive with the missus as passenger and my new RS4 arrives in 2 weeks (yippeeeeeee). :boots:

So, if I had the option I'd want to wear out the standard RS4 suspension before considering KWs and then not bother with the wireless controller. Oh yeh, I'd done 150,000 in the R36 and was detecting a lessening in damping which was why I replaced and chose KWs

Thanks guys really good feedback.. Will try speaking to MRC. I have 1 x photo on me that was just as the car was detailed. It's a strange colour as sometimes it looks very black, some brown and when the sun hits it it's really quite red. It's certainly different, although now seeing the Norgaro blue edition has made me think again. That is my all time fav Audi colour.

That looks lovely. Was that bought through a dealer, who's names escapes me, that always specs/buys RS audi's in that colour ?
Sorry, I know that's not much help, but I can't for the life of me remember their name - normally trade a lot of ferraris and bentleys too

How does the Akrapovic sound ? It's a serious consideration for me when my next b8 arrives in sept ?

And looks like a cream exclusive interior .... Very nice ... Would have loved to tick that box but the $ just didn't make sense

The colour is, in traditional Aston terms "Dubonnet Rosso"

I never could quite get excited by it on DB6's etc etc but mainly as in those days as a colour in Australia it didn't endure well. Looks good on yours though

Yes it was from Bramley ( they have 1 client) who seems to order all his cars in that colour/spec, was 1 year old with 2200 miles. The spec was amazing so I was really happy with it. They are currently selling his RS6 in the same colour. The Akropovic sounds amazing I was always a bit put off with the costs of them over some of the competition but now would say it's the best exhaust I have ever owned. The noise is brilliant!

Bramley ! That's it. I'm sure at 38 I'm losing my marbles already
I looked lovingly at that car on their website when it first came up, beautiful colour and spec
Can't have been far off 78-80k for that spec. Pretty much every box ticked

Re the Akrapovic, how easy is it to live with day to day when the valves are closed ?
I'm so tempted having heard akra systems on other cars with great results. Love the carbon exhaust trims too

Don't worry I am the same at times! :-) It's great on comfort mode it's really quiet until you pull the revs up high, I drive mine from Newbury to Liverpool street 2-3 times a weeks and back and have no issues with the noise etc... I recently did a welsh weekender with Evo magazine and really got to enjoy the car and understand it, the exhaust just finished it off perfectly! If you can afford it, it's worth it. Plus they hold their money well and you can sell them privately if needed ok compared to others. Yes the carbon tips are great and easy to keep clean.

That's what I was hoping
I love to have the loud side, but in reality, most of my driving is ferrying around my kids, doing the shopping or driving my mountainbike around for miles, and I need something akin to noisy mode on the Audi sports exhaust as 'normal' on an Akrapovic for 90% of the time and then unleash as required
Are you going to come along to any of the 246 meets as I'm interested to hear it with my own ears ?

KWv3's don't work with the rs4 drc as it is not electronic. You'll get blanking
Plugs for the pipes and a module to stop it throwing fault codes.

Ride height solution just using the adjustable spring kit to retain the drc.

Bear in mind if you have all the electronic toys fitted such as lane assist, adaptive cruise etc they will need recalibrated when you lower, which is not a simple job.

here is the RS6 for sale
There was an RS3 as well. Newbury supplied them all.

Combo doesn't float my boat, I really have a thing about beige (sand in Audi speak) interiors!

It's the second time they've had the RS6 up for sale, sat on their books for months last time.

Plus that RS6 has the "old fogey"steering wheel and gear knob.

Great spec apart from that?

The geyser who "specs" these cars?...what's his banter...does he just keep them for a couple of months then sell them on?
