Questions when buying

Post by anthony.s.arnold » Fri Jun 27, 2014 10:15 pm

New on here guys, looking to buy an Rs4 B7 over the next few months, no rush want to wait on a real good 1, usually when I'm buying I buy the 1st 1 I see cuz I'm that eager, this has bitten me on the arse before, had few M3's but wanna go RS, I've an 07 2.0 TDI B7 in black at min,

Just want to know what to look for when buying, I've checked through this forum and seen mention of a carbon build up which reduces bhp, Also vac loss which disrupts manifold and DSC leaking, anything else?

If like a car would it be rude to ask the seller to the seller for a dyno?

also must check discs and pads to?

Also were they sold in white? Never see white for sale

Thanks for any help

Brakes are pretty expensive if the discs need replaced too, so check for a lip or recent receipt. Check the exhaust valves operate when you push the S button, that'll confirm the vac system is working, and if the seat bolsters don't inflate at the same time, check they're not deactivated in the DIS before worrying.

There was a White Edition, but I don't know if it was sold in the UK. It has white seat backs covers.

Main check is probably look for DRC replacement, or at least a recent check that all is ok (obviously replaced is better).

I'd go for a sunroof too, with the auto cooling thing too if you can find one (called a solar sunroof, had solar panels in the glass).

You won't be able to see the carbon build up, and the owner is unlikely to be too keen on checking the 3-8k rev test (I think it's around 8-8.5s for a healthy car).

Only the (no-cost option) bucket seats have inflatable bolsters, so if the car you're looking at has the Recaros then it won't have inflatable bolsters.

I'd advise against the solar sunroof (sorry Martay) as it seems pointless to me to have a sunroof that doesn't let any light into the car! I went for the normal sunroof and the light headlining and seats - to get away from the traditional Audi "black as a coal hole" interior.

Mine has the lighter liner and I want a black one, but finding a black headliner for sale (with a sunroof) is taking a while. I have all the pillar trims and handles, just need to track down a B6/7 A/S/RS4 saloon with a sunroof.

I wouldn't worry about the seats either - seem to be a major weakness and even cars that have been fixed seem to fail after.

Ibis White was an option but hardly anyone bought one because it was before white came back into fashion! 22B's is the only Avant I have seen with a couple of saloons on autotrader over the years.

I have the solar sunroof on mine and its bloody fab. It powers a fan when the car is parked up so you return to a cool car after leaving it in the sun. Since mine is black, this makes a difference. Regarding the sunroof - hardly ever use it - but the solar bit is awesome.

Got to agree Spectre, didn't look for one with it specifically but it is a nice touch and makes a difference on a hot day. I believe it also keeps the cool box running.

+1... biggest gimmick i never knew i needed until i had it :D... i don't find it makes the particularly interior dark either although i do have the silver / black exclusive interior which probably does help brighten it up a little..
