Clutch pedal, has anyone got to the bottom of problem

Cheap as chips..... But 3 hrs to fit, apparently they have to drop a drive shaft plus 10 bolts and 2 screws, fluid and a tie wrap

I did hear, but can't confirm, that the clutch return pipe has been revised 7 times since launch.

I was under the impression that clutch return pipe was a gearbox drop job - interested to hear otherwise as significantly reduces labour.

No mate, it's not a gearbox out job, total job £420 inc VAT

They removed a drive shaft to gain access, labour includes checking fault, investigation + road test (launch) undertake repair, recheck with road test + (launch)

In my view the clutch on the RS4 is only good for about 60k miles.

So if your apporaching that figure probably worth just having the clutch and flywheel replaced as well.

I tried to take the cheaper route of just having the return pipe replaced, didnt work and ended up having full clutch replaced - in the end it cost me £400 more than if i just had all the work done from the off.

Haha. Dunno, clutch related stuff is bit out of reach for me I think. I've had a drive shaft out pretty easy tho when I replaced a hub so maybe. I like a challenge

Think im going to try all the pipes first.
Annoys me mind old rs2 all metal pipes ETC such a better idea. Clutches lasting till 150000 miles as well... Blooming plastic and clip in fixings...

How would you drop the gearbox?

Have you got one of those fancy lift things or just axle stands?

If you have the equipment to do it in the drive then go for it. I stripped my M3 engine out in the street as uncles drive was in use busy as hell 3 months that!

Remeber to buy some replacement manifold studs before you start as you will probably need to cut, retap and replace as they tend to corrode and can't be undone.

Tbh mate...the more I think about it, it makes more sense to get them to do the lot at once. And then it's done,the car has not let me down in 5 and a half years and I am planning on keeping it at least another year as there is no super saloons about barring the c63 which sounds epic,but IMO is not as good as the rs in every day use..

Have you had the new clutch return pipe fitted yet?

Mine had the pedal staying down with the clutch smell, Camberley changed the pipe, and now all ok

It's a 3hr job and it's about £420, apparently the pipe gets hot and the inside wall collapses or swells and becomes restricted so the hydraulic fluid cannot get away.

The new pipe resolves this

Have had the modified clutch return pipe done about three years ago ..not saying that has not failed though as it could have done...

I tried return pipe blah blah just bite the bullet and get a full clutch done,I'm pretty sure it would of been cheaper,mine went at 50 k but runs higher power n torque.

New hose with insulation sheathing
Fluid

Still did it

I think its got to do with the TO bearing guide bushing
Either heat related tolerances or debris/dust or both
