Boggo spec is good aswell.
Makes an Audi look the rip off they are.
DAB, Sat Nav and Adaptive Cruise as standard to name but a few.

I've not spec'd a Mk7 but you could easily spec a Mk6 to 40k, that's Audi money, no?
You get DAB as standard and have done for a while, exception being RNS equipped stuff like errr, R8. Granted that is pony.

Just wish mine had heated leather

Re: New golf r vs rs4
The nature of the Golf R is 'hot hatch'
For me the S3 is not a hot hatch, its a posh hatch.
I've not driven them both, but a part of me just has a feeling the Audi will be dull and understeery, and the Golf will be a hoot!
Maybe the old S3 and RS 3 has ruined me into thinking that Audi hot hatches are boring as feck !

Re: New golf r vs rs4
Agreed I've never been a Audi hot hatch fan although did like the look of rs3 then read the <beep> reviews it got very quick car though apparently
Re: New golf r vs rs4
As my last car was a new MKV R32 I think I'd feel properly short changed buying a new Golf R.
This was my personal car and my business was doing ok and I could afford to do it, I thought why not, so I spunked £34k on a brand new 3 door DSG which was fully loaded, it had every extra apart from a sunroof and cruse control.
I'd never bought a new car before but I can honestly say, unless I lease something else special through the business in the future, its a complete and utter rip off!
Over 30k for a chuffing Golf?! What was I thinking?! In the four years I owned it, God knows what I wasted on it, map, 4 sets of rims, coilovers, carbon fibre the list goes on!! And that's on top of the 17.5k I lost on it when I eventually sold it for 16.5k last March, and that was me having the buyers pants down!!
I bought the RS4 cash last March and can honestly say I've not lost a penny on it in 12 months, it feels a far superior car than the R32 and I guarantee you park it up next to a Golf (any Golf, even an R) and nearly everyone will give the RS more attention.
There's something very special about an RS4, the cult status and rarity factor makes in an instant future classic.
It may have its faults, but having experienced a premium Golf, the chavy comments, the endless pricks at traffic light GP's and it just being a Golf, I can honestly say I've never looked back - a good example of a b7 RS4 (IMO) is twice the car in almost every aspect,(including the MK V, VI & VII) and far better value for money!

Re: New golf r vs rs4
Ive always had a dub alongside my big Audis for the sheer funfactor and chuckability.
However only coz they cheap to buy and run, but once ur budget hits the 30's you negate the whole point of owning one.
Build quality aint a patch on Audis either... and status will always be a poor mans Audi
But in this instance agree with DK, the 8k lease deal is too good to be missed

Re: New golf r vs rs4
Agreed the rs4 is holding its value and I too think it will actually start going up in value (for excellent cherished examples that is like Cars on here)
That said they are feeling there age now and lack grunt imo
went for the R cos they are gonna be very rare like the last one .I had and hold on to there money too. We'll in the 6 months or so I will have mine anyway.

Re: New golf r vs rs4
You're probably right about it being a posh hatch but it is still bloody good fun to drive. Our friend Martyn is on his 2nd which says a lot to me seeing as he appears to get sent nice cars quite regularly. He adores the S3.HYFR wrote:The nature of the Golf R is 'hot hatch'

The S3 is definitely more grown up looking, looks like a small avant to me, the sportback that is. Whereas the Golf looks more hatch.
Heated leather as standard was one of the things that persuaded me initially.
And yes it does understeer, only the V10+ I drove hasn't out of the Audi range. Actually the TTRS wasn't too bad.

Re: New golf r vs rs4
Unfortunately jay you are right , they don't look as special as anything i see out and about and when I see an r32 or another golf I know it will be a nice car but lacks that special wow factor you get with certain other cars , a focus rs looks hard as nails but is Shyte on the build quality side

Re: New golf r vs rs4
Am I missing the point? Your comparing a brand new car against a 7 year old car, just goes to show how good the b7 is,as I would still rather be in one than a new golf R

Re: New golf r vs rs4
Had a short drive of the R, very nice engine and fantastic DSG gearbox, didn't really have the chance to give it the full beans though, seemed quick from the short drive I had. I will keep the RS4 for now as I really don't see the R being able to replace the RS but it is a great replacement for Lynne's S3.
The ride is very firm on 19" too, much firmer than the RS4.
