On anything other than a straight run way a Golf R will leave a C6 eating its dust.

Yes but it's still a golf.

Noone did, but my point is...it may look like a 'diesel' and it may just be a 'Golf' but, its an extremely capable machine in many ways

The build quality of the latest VWs seems ace mind?

The R has some nice touches but I think VW should have just been that little more "daring" with the style?

I think the GTI looks a little more aggressive from the front?

Maybe also should have stuck with twin centre pipes like the old R32.

Should map well?...maybe 350-370 no sweat?

Whilst I'm yet to drive the Golf R, I did run an RS 3 for 9k miles and use it in a variety of dynamically challenging conditions...and its fair to say that I could only liken its handling to that of a piece of toast.

Whereas reviews on the Golf R are extremely positive

Seems to be a few threads on piston heads about VW lease/pcp deals on then too?

I haven't a clue about that kind of stuff?...but lots of chatter over there about the R?

Will do, the Mrs didn't like cloth so have gone for leather. Bit concerned to hear that the ride might be a bit on the firm side.
