How do you have USB and iPod connectivity for the tune2air? Does the ami support 2 connections?sync24 wrote:I have a 2010+ RNS-E plus the AMI installed in my glovebox - coupled with a Tune2Air WMA1000 Bluetooth Music Adaptor - I am in audio/connectivity Heaven! I've a 500G HD for all my music and a rock solid BT audio connection from my phone to the AMI for listening to internet radio over 3/4g on the move [or to stream audio from my iPhone playlist/offline spotify]
Installing this kit was definitely one of the best mods I've ever done and comes totally recommended!
Good luck in getting it sorted - you wont be disappointed.

If I had a pound for every time I've been asked and posted the answer to this question here and on other Audi forums...I'd be driving a McLaren P1 todayGlenRS wrote:So on that basis would just getting the ami make the ipod work properly with the original head unit and give proper directory access?

The AMI will ONLY work with a 2010+ RNS-E, so if you have a pre-2010 RNS-E (i.e. like the one that the factory fitted to your RS4) then it won't work.
For many people getting a decent iPod interface is THE reason for the upgrade to a 2010+ RNS-E.GlenRS wrote:Ultimately I'm happy with the head unit I have, just drives me potty the iPod functions are beyond useless.

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
That's my question too - as the AMI only has 1 input connector, so AFAIK it's either USB cable to the hard drive OR an Apple cable to the Tune2Air.Rw@@dy wrote:How do you have USB and iPod connectivity for the tune2air? Does the ami support 2 connections?

I'm not too bothered about connecting my phone directly to the unit, I'm happy to stream via bluetooth and have a USB hdd

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
That's the thing - you can't do both of those at the same time!Rw@@dy wrote:I'm not too bothered about connecting my phone directly to the unit, I'm happy to stream via bluetooth and have a USB hdd
Streaming A2DP audio via Bluetooth (at decent quality) needs a Tune2Air and an Apple lead plugged into the AMI - but if you've got an HDD plugged into the AMI with a USB lead there's nowhere to plug the Apple lead into!
And if you don't have the OE BT but a third party one that supports A2DP then the audio quality will be c**p as the audio connection between the BT module and the RNS-E is low bandwidth (300Hz-3kHZ) MONO.

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Hmm how did Kev do it! Unless it's just changing the cable into the ami as and when each is needed....

That's the only way I know how to do it, and why I've already posted asking that question.Rw@@dy wrote:Hmm how did Kev do it! Unless it's just changing the cable into the ami as and when each is needed....

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
To confirm, I just swap the cables over when I need to. As Dave has said there is only one plug in the AMI. I either have a cable with the tunein BT adaptor for BT audio streaming from my phone plugged into the AMI or another cable plugged into the AMI with the other end connected to my HDD.Rw@@dy wrote:Hmm how did Kev do it! You could buy a couple of decent SD cards and have your audio files on them as well as keeping your tunein plugged into to the AMI ....
Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
I've just ordered the tune2air and I'm going leave it connected, 64g on sd will be plenty for me

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
The tune2air turned up today and it is an essential addon for the money IMO (thanks guys) after using it today with my Galaxy S3. Even Spotify accepts the prev/next buttons on the head unit to skip tracks, pauses play when the head unit shuts down (haven't got it to auto start playing again on resync yet but I have barely touched it), reconnects automatically. Played 1Xtra perfectly too
.
Audio quality is as good as I could have hoped for too, perfectly adequate for my mildly fussy ears

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Thanks for clarifying that. That's how I thought it was from what ive read on here before, but wasn't 100% sure. As I hadn't really looked into it as its just something on the cards hadn't worried about it too much.PetrolDave wrote:If I had a pound for every time I've been asked and posted the answer to this question here and on other Audi forums...I'd be driving a McLaren P1 todayGlenRS wrote:So on that basis would just getting the ami make the ipod work properly with the original head unit and give proper directory access?![]()
