Haven't coded it in yet but I had the old changer out, AMI in, cable run through from behind the head unit and it all fitted in well under 10 minutes :). No problems whatsoever snaking the AMI cable through but I also have gibbon-like hands which helped no doubt.

Don't think it can but I am not an isheep user. Guys, still haven't coded it in yet but was out in the car tonight for about 30 mins after fitting it and I am getting engine feedback (rev interference noise if you follow) when playing SD media at the very least, may well affect radio too but most noticeable when fading out/in tracks. 99% sure it wasn't there before but may swap it all back to check.

Possible that you have a bad earth somewhere.

Something I keep wondering and upgrading the head unit will be on my list to do at some point, I have the Audi I pod adapter in the glove box already. Will this work with the 2010 on head units and display all the ipod track and album listing, or will I still need this other ami interface?

I'm 99.99% sure it will play the audio, but it can't play the video as there's no video connection between the AMI and the RNS-E.

The Audi Ipod adapter is just a CD emulator, so it will work with the 2010+ RNS-E - but with exactly the same limitations as with a pre-2010 RNS-E (which is caused by Audi not implementing CD text over the CD changer interface (which was designed in the last millenium!). So if you want album and track info on the RNS-E screen then you have to go down the AMI route.

I thought so as well thanks. Haven't removed the kit to check yet but I recoded it all this morning.I have recoded to 0309725 as I have removed both the CD Changer and the useless TV Tuner from the boot. I was pretty sure that based on the on-screen instructions I got the right number but looking at the wiki now has me doubting myself. The AMI now appears in the sources (I don't have any iSheep devices to check that currently) but I guess I should go double check the steering wheel functions.

The AMI doesn't use the same lead as the CD changer so you have to run a new lead from the back of the RNS-E to the glovebox - and that's a whole lot easier if you remove the glovebox, unless you're double jointed :biggrin2:
Does anyone have a link to this cable?

So on that basis would just getting the ami make the ipod work properly with the original head unit and give proper directory access? Or would it still not and hence the upgrade to the newer unit?

Ultimately im happy with the head unit I have, just drives me potty the ipod functions are beyond useless.

You'll need a 2010+ RNS-E if you want to use AMI mate.

I was happy enough with my original but it's just out of date for what I wanted to do unfortunately.
