Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Liking the passenger eject ha ha.
Ok so got the AMI kit and just quickly hooked it up to the RNS-E last night and it worked fine.
For the actual install will I need to remove the glovebox like in this guide?
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-spor ... guide.html
Or can I link it all up by just removing the CD changer?

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Nice one, Billy. You don't need to remove the glove box I don't think - just remove the cd changer using the radio keys I've read on another forum. Sure PetrolDave could confirm...

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Good stuff, cheers again Neil.
Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Does the upgrade improve the sound quality at all?
I am just trying to rationalize the upgrade and trying to figure out all the benefits. So far it seems the SDD cards, and slightly improved graphics is all you get.

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Sound - the sound processor/processing/algorithm is the same from Bose. A few have commented that it sounds better but I thank that's placebo - sure the Bose sound processing is the same.
All However, improved graphics, improved CPU faster all round. Supports AMI. 32GB SDHC x2 not 4GB SDD x2 laster is slow. Sell the Mk1 on ebay for £300 the upgrade costs £250ish (or dollar equivalent)...
All kinda worth it - the MK1 is sloowww by comparison...

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
Yeh it's definitely much faster.
But the main reason for me was for the AMI, being able to connect a HDD and iPod/iPhone is just a feature I really wanted.

Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
The AMI doesn't use the same lead as the CD changer so you have to run a new lead from the back of the RNS-E to the glovebox - and that's a whole lot easier if you remove the glovebox, unless you're double jointedneilparf wrote:Nice one, Billy. Re: RNS-E AMI Upgrade
It's not about sound quality; it's about a faster processor, a higher resolution display and a proper iPod/iPhone interface (or a hard drive).leadfoot wrote:Does the upgrade improve the sound quality at all?

Managed to do it without removing the glovebox, was a bit fiddly though.PetrolDave wrote:The AMI doesn't use the same lead as the CD changer so you have to run a new lead from the back of the RNS-E to the glovebox - and that's a whole lot easier if you remove the glovebox, unless you're double jointedneilparf wrote:Nice one, Billy.
