Wow, great vid Tim,enjoyed watching that. An RS4 must seem really boring after a day doing that! It's also
a fair bit more exciting than my day job...

Wow, glad everyone likes it :)

Quick answers to some questions...

rswilsonrs4 - I'll let you know when the next Hawk T2 detachment is up at Lossiemouth so you can get some pics.

The reason we have to lookout of the cockpit so much is because there are many aircraft low-flying at the same time and they can be very hard to see because they are small and fast. I'm covering 7 miles per minute in that video (420 kts = 483.32 mph to be exact) and flying at the height of power pylons (or my student should be flying at 250 ft...bad student). I lost 2 of my students in Tornado GR4 accidents last year through failing to see each others aircraft, they both died as did one of their instructors, a friend of mine. The instructor constantly has to emphasise lookout to the student as they become 'HUD' monkeys - they love the green writing on the Head Up Display.

The fuel I'm using is 25 kgs per minute at low-level (11 kgs per min at 20,000 ft ish) - we carry 1600 kgs with an extra fuel tank fitted. Super-quick public maths means that this is roughly 6 gallons per minute to cover 7 nautical miles (8 statute miles) so roughly 1.3 mpg is what I'm running at. Crikey, that's not much but probably better that a supercharged RS :)

If you have any questions just ask, I've been doing this a while so I'm more that happy to engage - I will post a forward one at some point. When I'm instructing students we focus our full attention on the student - we only allow a camera to be taken by the non-flying pilot so this may take a while is all.

:!: Simply epic :!:

I love finding out what others do on here - my daughter is always asking about who I meet at RS gatherings and who I chat with on the forum, I can now add a 'fighter pilot' to the list.
Thanks so much for sharing - a real pleasure to watch and to learn more about what you do. I used to be envious of Gareth [noyjatt] on here as he looked after apache helicopters [a secret geeky passion of mine] but now I've seen this - I think you've taken over :)

I showed my 7 year old boy this - he turned to me with the sternest of faces and said 'I want to fly fast jets, daddy'.

Tim, what have you started! This'll ruin me - I see flying lessons on the horizon (ha!) already!
