Gear box oil change/service
I've a search through the site but wondering if anyone has come across a guide to changing the gear box oil including temps, filters etc?
Cheers

Thanks Shop, the audipages.com right up looks pretty good but not been able to find anything in Footer's 'suppository'
If anyone else can chip in on this I'd appreciate it.

Re: Gear box oil change/service
I used this:
http://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/21371 ... -procedure
I have a receipt with all the part numbers if needed. Just make sure you have a 17mm hex socket and and a fluid pump to hand, everything else you'll find in a decent toolkit.
I found putting it on axle stands and carefully running it up and down the gears in D once it's up to 35C allowed an extra .5l in, same again another .5l, after that no more and that was good.

Re: Gear box oil change/service
That's brilliant thanks.
When you did this, did you complete the last part mentioned in the guide?

CheersI usually do this procedure a second time after driving the car for about 20 miles, so as to get as much fluid out of the torque converter as possible. If you plan to do the same, wait to replace the filter until the second drain and fill

Re: Gear box oil change/service
Nope. The oil came out clean as the new stuff, so didn't see the point. I did intend on doing it if it had been be full of cr@p though. My gearbox feels much better afterwards, although the TC is still not locking, and it needs topping up again after a radiator change.RustyBucket wrote:That's brilliant thanks. When you did this, did you complete the last part mentioned in the guide?

Re: Gear box oil change/service
Thanks that's really helpful, I feel ready to have a crack at it now. You mentioned that you had the receipt for the parts with numbers, please can you ping that over.
Thanks again
Thanks again
Re: Gear box oil change/service
Here was my one, minus the oil which I got from Pentosin dealers in Norfolk.
Some of the bolts are incorrect though, so I will double check them tomorrow

Any thoughts on this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A6-A8-RS ... 27d52e4a03
too risky or not, I found it after typing in the transmission fluid number listed in the DIY section. Try to save a few pennies as the front discs need changing and the service reminder has just enlighted me that more attention is required. Wife not very impressed

Re: Gear box oil change/service
I'd put it in my Rangey. Not sure if I'd risk it on the '6. It's probably fine, but there'd always be that doubt...

Re: Gear box oil change/service
Just to confirm - those I eBay are Febi bilstein equivalent parts and not the OE parts. Fluid might be ok but as had been shown before they sometimes aren't the same. I'd stick to the ones listed in the FAQ, they are all the same oil but resold by different companies but originally made by Pentosin.
