Running in is in the manual.

Nothing above 6k rpm for the first 1000km
Nothing above 7k rpm for the next 1000km
Then gradually up to max for the next 500km.

So all in its 2500km or 1500 miles running in as described in the manual.

It's on pg 146.

Thanks for letting me know, I don't have the manual yet as I still have 10 days to go.

What about launching the car, how bad for the car is it?

Launch control is on pg 80. Advises that regular use will increase wear and tear, don't know how that will impact warranty. But if they put it on it is surely there to be used???

P.S page refs are there for when you get it! Had mine 2 weeks now, loving every minute! Even if I am still running it in!

Launch control is not really much better than just putting it in sport and smashing the pedal
I did a number of GPS times runs and with/without was almost identical

L/c just holds the revs at 4.5kish from memory, whereas smashing the pedal in sport mode means the clutch doesn't really kick in until about the sane anyway, so similar outcome

Fwiw, 3 non consecutive launches in my old e60 M5 over half a day and the clutch was toasted. BMW will dodge engine/transmission warranty claims if you've used L/C more than a handful of times

Rs4 dual clutch will launch all day long should you wish
