Oil Leak..

Post by RSNeil » Sun Feb 16, 2014 7:53 pm

4 months new to RS4 ownership with relatively trouble free motoring and now an oil leak. Yesterday a yellow oil warning came on the DIS to say the oil was down to or below minimum, I was only 5 minutes from my destination so I continued steadily and when I got there it soon be came apparent that there was a fair leak, nothing on the dipstick and the rainbow tinted stains all around the front of the car, last night I added 1.5 litres of oil in hopes to get the oil up to a safe level to drive home but still nothing showed on the dipstick, so rather than chance doing any damage I got a taxi home.  I do check the oil weekly so I know the drop in oil is sudden.  A search through these forums and it seems the oil cooler failing seems to be a common problem, the question is would it be safe to drive it to the nearest Audi garage about 10 miles away or should I be getting it towed there? Does the oil run through the oil cooler all the time or just when it gets above a certain temperature?
It still has 7 months audi warranty left to run so that should cover the repair.

It's likely that one of the oil cooler lines has corroded to the point that it has gone from weeping to a full on leak.

Get it recovered to be on the safe side.

Sounds like oil cooler to me, there is a way to get this under warranty but some garages are more difficult than others

(I got mine sorted under warranty)

Don't drive it, not worth the risk.

As above; don't risk driving it. Nice that your warranty will cover repair costs

Not worth the risk. For the sake of 10miles get it recovered, won't be expensive.
