Tailgate playing up

Post by Haggizbasher » Sun Feb 02, 2014 8:27 pm

I'm having issues with the power tail gate not opening all the way or closing all the way. The odd time it will close and locks with no problems. I've tried lifting the boot lid all the way up and pressing the close button for 4+ seconds.....it did close but has not worked properly since....... Has anyone had a similar problem....any suggestions.....thanks

Mine took a dizzy turn last week.

Wouldnt open of key fob but you could hear it lock clicking?

Basically had to force it up by hand and then close again my hand...three times then it seemed to rectify been ok since.

Mine has always stopped just short of fully open and I've had to push it up that last four inches or so.

Mine will open with the key fob and switch in the car, but will only lift up 1 to 2ft. When I press the close button, nothing happens....keep pressing and sometimes it will close....but only half way

Have you tried to RTFM!? I had some issues and I had a little read of the handbook ad sorted out my woes! I can't remember how but I think the handbook explains how to set how far the boot opens too. Might be worth a look.............

Is this what they are getting at although the link is a Q5 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gqlo4Xyyfw

Has the memory on the power tailgate been set at a low height and can you simply re-program it as per the link?

It's an acronym I've been using in the world of IT for many years, I meant it in the most polite way possible :)

Sorry it didn't fix the problem though.

I love teasing the IT's at my work with it now...... Tailgate opens but switch for closing is dead.....does not work at all , need to force it close, however the locking mechanism works fine..... Might pull out the closing switch and have a look for any obvious signs

Pulled out the switch, there was quite a lot of water in the void space.....looks like it was water damage. I've no idea how the water is getting in......I use a power washer to clean the car and I'm hoping that's how the waters is getting in... Changed out the switch for a new one and it works fine now....just need to sort out the water problem....!

Well done. Is it possible it's water leaking from the rear screen washer, this happened in my B7 S4 when the pump was on the way out? Have you smelt/tasted the water to see if it's fresh or washer fluid?
