The G2/G62 is quite a bit lower down on the S4 so you'll probably lose about a litre unless you're a dutchboy fingering dyke wizard. Meh, I know what I mean.

Current plan is to leave the old sensor connected to the wire so I can 'let go' of it after I've pulled it out to slot the new one home. Just got to make sure I don't lose both O rings in the process! Imagine the existing O ring will stay in the housing rather than come away with the old sensor? Ideally would like to put a new one in

Yeah my O ring stayed put and needed a little prising out with a screwdriver.

Sorry to drag up this old thread again, but I'm changing the G62 (trying to) and I just can't see how people can do this with normal hands, and call it easy. Either I'm missing something obvious, or I'm doing it wrong. I can't even SEE the damn thing cause it's so tight between the airbox and the firewall, and it's jam packed with hoses and the wiring loom. I suspect it's easier with the airbox off, but even the PDF earlier in the thread here is missing a step. I loosened the bolts indicated in teh excellent PDF, but the airbox still seem stuck to the MAFs. From the pictures it seems the MAFs are out too.

What am I missing here?

Edit:
This is what I see on my car. it looks just like in the PDF, except it seem smuch tighter between the airbox and the firewall? Or there's lots more stuff in there. I can just about squeeze two fingers between the box and firewall, and I don't have particularly big hands.

Check the spark plug DIY in the FAQ pour removing the airbox.

Thanks. Seems I just need to wiggle it a bit to get the MAFs out of the plenums. I added a photo, is it this tight in everyone's cars?

A lot of them are pretty hefty lasses. Or lads. Depending on which way you swing, of course.

Well, back on topic. I managed to get the damn thing out, but he clip was really brittle and came apart, of course. Trying to source a new one without having to get the whole sensor and o-ring package. The positioning of the sensor is really stupid, though, and this is definitely not a half hour job. It might be different on right hand drive cars? It looks a bit more accessible in teh pictures I've seen.
Anyways, getting it back in is proving difficult. I can't get no leverage, and I assume using soap as a lubricant might be less than ideal if it mixes with the coolant?

Using soap as a lubricant doesn't sound like we're getting back on topic...

Ok, you made me chuckle, I'll give you that! :beerchug: :assflash:

So, a tiny amount of soap, bad for the coolant or inconsequential?

You think it's inaccessible on an RS6, try it on a S4 B6. I still have the scars.

Leave the soaps for prison showers, don't contaminant the circuit.

I had a tiny amount of soap on the o-ring and it popped right in. Even got that little brittle clip on without dropping it and breaking it. Car seems to like it, no fans going wild, coolant temp reads stable on the short trip I took as a test. I'll go for a proper drive tomorrow and see how it looks, but seems fine now. Was a proper bitch to get to though. :)
