Re: RS4 vs 335d
But an RS6 isn't even close to the same price bracket.
You've clearly got anti BMW blinkers.....

Re: RS4 vs 335d
Think the point is how cheap the 335 is yet it has those features. You can't compare 335 and rs6

They really don't do it for me, can't abide the current styling. I'd be looking at Merc for a plan B.Andy947 wrote:But an RS6 isn't even close to the same price bracket.

As the product release A4 and 3 series aren't aligned these things are always going to occur. Have to wait for B9 due next year.S4Player wrote:Think the point is how cheap the 335 is yet it has those features. You can't compare 335 and rs6

Re: RS4 vs 335d
Had an E92 335d which was re-mapped and now have an RS4.
Putting the Diesel aspect to one side - it was a great engine in a crap package, the gear box was average and the M-Sport suspension was dire even after ditching the runflats for normal ones. Overall it's not a car that gets under your skin like a ///M or RS car can.

Re: RS4 vs 335d
To be fair though, the new F30 is a completely different car to the E90.
Go drive it, see how you get on.... They are mighty impressive.

For me the BMW interior and leather isn't as nice as Audi which completely turned me off. Great package if you want fuel economy and performance.

Re: RS4 vs 335d
Why do people get so hung up on marques, the blind loyalty defies belief sometimes. The two cars are both excellent, but as someone said the tech on BMW's is ahead of Audi at the moment and I think BMW interiors have caught Audi up. In the end I goes the decision comes down to the pay off between economy, price, outright performance and traction, on a dry road he might actually find the BMW more fun, it certainly steers better than the RS, but in the wet it's another matter.

I don't think people are getting hung up but instead stating their preferences. Plus this is an Audi forum. Most of us probably considered the Merc and BMW alternatives and decided Audi was what we liked hence we are here.

Re: RS4 vs 335d
I have basically come to the conclusion that this is a head vs heart thing. I went with my head last time and part of me has died driving a 2.0 TFSI. I am pretty sure I am going to go with my heart on this one. You all seem to be saying pretty much what I am thinking. The BMW is pretty impressive for a diesel but it is not an RS!
On the tech side of things, go on the BMW website and make your car, there is a pretty impressive level of options you can play with, Audi is behind BMW on this side of things.
I'll probably be an RS owner again in the next week or so.............

Re: RS4 vs 335d
I think one or two folk are a bit over sensitive, I just find it odd and think it would be nice to have a more informed debate once in a while. I change cars quite frequently and have no loyalty to a particular brand, I'm here because I owned a B5 and B7 years ago and I'm always interested to know how people find the latest models, but you are right, this is an Audi forum and just as partisan as any other, love is blind!Nickyboy wrote:I don't think people are getting hung up but instead stating their preferences. Re: RS4 vs 335d
Not really comparable propositions but......the BMW lacks:Jhcolling wrote:A quick reintroduction. I used to own a B5 RS4 and loved it, it had the usual modifications and Martin looked after the car well. I had to sell the car as I needed a car with decent mpg to travel up and down the country in. I went for an A4 TFSI and have hated every minute of it.
The time has come for a new car and my heart says buy an RS4, Audi have given me a pretty reasonable deal on an unregistered car they have in stock and I am about to start the ball rolling. The only thing stopping me is a 335d, I have never driven one but the figures, on paper, are pretty amazing. I know it's not going to be as quick as the RS but it works out around £10k cheaper and I assume will be cheaper to run.
Do any of you have any real experience of both cars? I'm not going to do more than 10k miles pa in whichever I buy.
All comment welcome, try to keep things unbiased![]()

The Audi lacks:
Economy
Cameras (if you have lost the ability to use the windows)
£10k saving
Anonymity
If you need a diesel for economy (mpg and the cheaper acquisition cost) the 335d is easily the best choice, if not then the RS4 (or an M3/M4 if you can deal with owning a BMW) wins.
to add: I had 3 weeks in a 335d and it was a great car but not to be compared with a V8 with 4WD.
Re: RS4 vs 335d
Yes you can, I'm not sure what it is like compared to the Quattro system.S4Player wrote:Can you not spec xdrive?
I spoke to BMW and I could drive a 320 with xdrive or a 335 RWD not the 335 with AWD.
Re: RS4 vs 335d
As far as I know all the 335d are auto's? Surely this would put any serious petrolhead off??
I know a lad who owns a 335 petrol and his is mapped to 400bhp on standard internals and turbos with only a performance exhaust as a mod. Avoid the oil burners.
