RS4 vs 335d

Post by Jhcolling » Tue Jan 28, 2014 9:49 pm

A quick reintroduction. I used to own a B5 RS4 and loved it, it had the usual modifications and Martin looked after the car well. I had to sell the car as I needed a car with decent mpg to travel up and down the country in. I went for an A4 TFSI and have hated every minute of it.
The time has come for a new car and my heart says buy an RS4, Audi have given me a pretty reasonable deal on an unregistered car they have in stock and I am about to start the ball rolling. The only thing stopping me is a 335d, I have never driven one but the figures, on paper, are pretty amazing. I know it's not going to be as quick as the RS but it works out around £10k cheaper and I assume will be cheaper to run.

Do any of you have any real experience of both cars? I'm not going to do more than 10k miles pa in whichever I buy.

All comment welcome, try to keep things unbiased :biggrin3:

Cheers

John

A remap would make the 335 very quick indeed.

Hah, wondered how long it would be for you to come in with a diesel comment.

I'm going to respond with an honest answer from me .....

Rs4 all the way!!!

Reasons being ;
Top Audi marque

Yes , it's the performance , but there is also a wee bit of the "badge" which sells it for me too .....if this was a M3 or RS4 ? , I wouldn't have answered or commented on the debate.

The BMW 335 is just a fast diesel ........yes , you might get performance and economy , but it will NEVER be an RS4

I know it's a vain ....sorry !

I'm not sure about going down the remap route, both cars would be new so would not want to lose the warrantee.

Also, the 335d would be x-drive, anybody know how this compares to the quattro system?

On paper I know the 435d was as quick as an RS 4 to 60. That would piss me off as an RS owner at the lights against a diesel.

I think the B9 is overdue. Bring on B9 RS 4/5 with 0-60 in 4s to blow away these pesky diesels.

Nah, BMW folk will be too befuddled by their iDrive at the lights.

The level of Tech offered by BMW makes the Audi's look very very basic indeed.

Mate of mine has a very very high spec 335d touring X-Drive, and its a mega machine.

If you are concerned about MPG, then go test drive the BMW.

I'm a VAG owner, and don't even contemplate anyting else, however, if you cannot admit that it is an incredible machine, they you are a fool

Curious about the tech, I'd say quite the opposite.

It will be a few years before we see a B9 RS4, surely?

Tbh I was expecting the 335 to get a bashing but nobody has slated it, surely somebody on here has experience of both?

Does the RS4 offer all round camera's (two in the front bumper, 1 in each wing mirror? and a rear one?), Head up display?, Do audi include mobile data for 3 years with the car?

Does the RS4 have fully inteligent healdights? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dvPZ3H1Vm4

LIke i said, the BMW is way more Advanced than anything Audi currently offers.

For clarity, i've got a B8 RS4 on order....

Hmm, that's not exactly mega tech though is it?! If you want that you have RS6.
