New B7 owner, prepare to flame for being lazy!

Hello all you strange new forum people. I don't really ever stray from the C5 RS6 section but since I picked up one of those treacle-slow, non-snailed saloon oddities I thought I would test the waters in here and see if you lot are as odd as all the other C5 owners say or if you are as awesome as we are.

Lovely feeling car, slow as hell compared to the beast but that is woman's problem, not mine. Now that I have endeared myself thoroughly to you all no doubt, some questions if that is OK? I simply haven't had the time to go trawling since waking up yesterday morning, deciding to go out and buy one for the hell of it yesterday and actually coming back with one. It isn't perfect (less perfect since madam French kissed a wall with the rear of it this morning...........) and I thought I would see what the most likely suspects are for what I have found so far. It was pitch black and wet when we got back yesterday and woman had the car all day today so I haven't had a chance to check things myself yet.


1. Front discs are shot and juddering, shocker. I was looking at a replacement OE set from Ebay but is there anywhere else that is cheaper. I have a TPS contact and a VW contact that will discount me nicely but I haven't spoken to them yet so worth asking.

2. While it has got a lot better since yesterday, the car is steaming up a fair bit after use. After the test drive it was fine, came back to the car 30 mins later after doing the deal and ALL the windows were heavily steamed up. Looks to build up mostly in the rear of the car. Haven't had the mats up yet to check things or the battery well but I will be changing the battery anyway. Saloon, so no washer hose to the rear that I am aware of. It does have a sunroof (not solar)

3. DRC. Three sides of the car are dead level, the rear right appears to be down by about 0.5 inches. No knocking, banging, clonking or compromised handling that I noticed but I have barely driven it, handed madam the keys. I will do my best to measure levels on a flat surface tomorrow to confirm and she will be on ramps anyway so can inspect shocks for signs of fluid leaks. Audi Camberley quoted about £750 all in but to do a pair at once. Couldn't get hold of MRC to check. Does this slight droop on just one wheel sound familiar? No, I don't want to remove the DRC, I removed it on the RS6 and want to keep it on this one.

4. Replacement rear bumper. While I could touch up the bumper to tide it over for a few months until we have moved in to our house, I may not be able to resist for that long. I was looking at this, looks to be correct? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271146334486

5. Although it has RNS-E, I have a latest gen RS4-fascia'd one sitting here that was going to go in to our S3 and OE Bluetooth as well. When I swap that lot over, is there anything else I should look at retrofitting?

6. After house move, I am looking to throw on a set of 100 cell Milltek cats to match the system on there currently, stage 2 MRC manifold, MRC CAK (unless the Revolution-style kit is better?) and stage 2 remap. Being that these things are crippled by not having forced induction from factory, is the difference in performance really going to justify the 3k outlay or will my 6 still batter it? No I don't have the money to TTS is currently :P

7. I am going to have a search but are there any pics easily findable of black loons on here with black optics? The previous owner put on a black optics front grill but left the rest silver.

1. Nope. Get whatever discount you can get. If they are not too worn could just need the pad debris cleaning out of the holes.

2. Not sure. Are all the windows closed properly? Mine steams up a bit inside after use in this weather tbh.

3. Pass. I will let someone else answer this one.

4. Looks ok to me.

5. Nope. Thats about it.

6. Most of that sounds ok. There are no real big power gains from the revo type carbon intake system. Too much heat soak. Better to just remove aux rad and fit caf and panel filter.

7. Search for Mikefish. His loon is all black.

Nick,

You have quite a rep and legendary status on here I recon - the Subaru adventures were something else, so if you go the whole hog with the RS4 it will be a unique car that all of us weird, normally aspirated (mostly) owners can admire.

Your lady friend is very lucky. Quite a step up from the Seat or S3 - have you sold more of the fleet to just have to RS's now?

No answers to your queries yet, you seem to find answers to questions most of us never consider, so am confident you will come out ok!

Hope you enjoy the journey with the 4.

Hi and FON

1. From memory i thing stoke audi are the cheapest for oem discs and pads
2. Could be rubber seals or maybe moisture coming in some how. i had a rubber grommit missing under the engine bay in my old B6 S4 which allowed water in.
3. Likely cause is a snapped spring. my B7 RS4 had this on the offside rear. I changed for the Kw coilover adjustables and kept the current DRC's. Stock springs are about £100 from Audi and would recommend changing a pair.
6. Not really going to free up to much power by throwing 3k at this. it is already pretty well tuned for a NA where as turbo's have stacks of power to be found in comparison. Get a decent exhaust, Gut the precats and get a stage 2 map and imo leave it there.

I'm black (not actually black) my car is of that race of vehicle.

I'm not sure replacing the rest of the window surrounds is as easy as that. Seems to me some just wrap it.

Re. Steaming up.

I've noticed this happens during washing of the car, I have the solar sunroof that (I believe) runs the fan to keep air circulation when you're not in the car. My thoughts were that this is possibly introduces moisture inside?

Might be wrong but doesn't seem to do it normally and I can watch it happen as I wash/hose the car.

1. when you're shopping around try PW Motorsport - easily googleable - he's the one in wales. He does a decent discount on OEM discs. And don't skimp on pads. The cheap Pagids are <beep>.

3. I wouldn't freak out just yet: it might not be the DRC. I had a Z4 coupe that I was convinced had a lower corner. It sorted itself out by the time I measured it again on a better surface. You can never find a flat bit of ground when you need it! Even petrol forecourts aren't flat. I can't imagine, thanks to the diagonal linkage, that just one corner would sag. And also (I am no engineer but...) they aren't weight wearing like springs: another reason why that should cause a dip. I'm very happy to be corrected!

So your woman was away all day, and has returned and the windows are all steamed up? And you want some B7 blokes to maybe spell it out for you?

Maybe she found someone who still knows how to work a 6MT gear knob?

P.S. I recently rolled up my change, and have been thinking of buying a C5 with it. Can you recommend the best bumpers for parking the boat in tight spaces?

Nope, none of that fake valved guff, just a simple caveman Milly system on there. The simpleton/purist in me wants the MRC stage 2 manifold mod just to have that redundant stuff totally disabled/removed but I have taken on board that I wouldn't really see any benefit to performance doing this.

Sakimoano, lol, oddly none of my ladies have ever strayed, something to do with knowing how to lay the pipe I believe is the term and being a thoroughly awesome chap. If your other half needs a good service you know where to send her, just package her well for the trip across the pond :thumbs: .

Guys, the 4 really is lovely, feels very, very nice (tighter than the 6 and the 3), I am only poking fun at it due to being a torque lover over all else and that is obviously lacking/delivered less aggressively compared to the other two cars. Driving the S3 back from detailing last night it was just grinning as how much it just wanted to go all the time and power was always there from pretty well sod all revs. Man I can't wait to Supercharge this beast, I think she will be epic, loved it on the XJR. It will still be woman that gets to enjoy that though, not me really.

Ref the steaming up, does the b7 have issues with the pollen filter housing? This could let water into the heater.
OR, as someone said above, perhaps the person you bought it off left the windows down and let some damp in?
If you wanted the discs from Stoke audi go through srs as you get discount and I could always drop them down to you.
