Anybody waiting more than 5 months for RS6?

Post by Vanwilder77 » Fri Jan 24, 2014 12:55 pm

Anyone out there getting frustrated as I am waiting for a new RS6? I placed my order on the 24th Sept and I've just learnt from my dealer that it will "probably" arrive at the dealer for end of Feburary. That's over 5 months waiting and I have to admit it's quite torturing. Like a child knowing that a present is theirs under the xmas tree, but can't open it until Xmas day!

According to my dealer, it takes a day to build the RS6. So if there is a build week allocation for a certain week, why must be wait 4 to 6 weeks for it to arrive? I think that is just nuts! I understand about in transit to port etc but i dont think this justifies waiting for weeks for it knowing that its built! It would be a lot quicker to pick it up from the factory and it'd be in my driveway in 3 days time!

Rant over.

I was originally told by at least 3 dealers in early November 2013 that I would be waiting until at least April 2014 and possibly as late as June 2014 for a car ordered at that time. Fortunately one of the dealers had already had a car on order for Jan 2014 delivery which could still have its specification altered. I wasn't able to add any Audi Exclusive items though. My car is now in the UK and due to arrive at the dealers next week. :D

My car was built last week FYI so 2-3 weeks from build date to arrival. It may be worth pointing out that it was originally expected late Jan 2014. I received a new slot of week 2 2014 in mid December but then it got put back again at the beginning of January.

Lucky you.

My build week was last week. Week 3 to be precise. But the dealer, Poole Audi, have said end of Feb is the worst case scenario to beginning of Feb if I'm extremely lucky! Ordered this car in hope it would be ready before the imminent arrival of my second baby which the due date is around 9th Feb. Seething.

What colour and specs have you gone for? :-)

Nope. No date confirmed at all. Did they give you a date after build week was confirmed?

Snap - Daytona grey and have very similar specs to yours.

Daytona Grey Pearl
Black interior & carbon
Black gloss 21" alloys
HUD
LED headlights
Sports Exhaust
Privacy Glass
Advanced Key with Power Boot
dynamic pack
Matt aluminium
Heated rear seats

I almost went for the Matt look as i really loved it. But the dealer advised me not to go for it as i wouldn't get much return from it if i sold it on. I test drove the S7 and absolutely hated the speed display. What do you make of the other spec costs such as the Ceramic brakes and B&O sound system? I think it's rather steep.

Where did you get your RS6 ordered?

Stafford Audi, very impressed with the attitude from them so far.

When I first put a deposit down I was given a supply date of around late Jan or very early Feb. In December Stafford Audi contacted me and said that it looked like my build date had been brought forward to week 51 and an expected delivery date based on that of week 2. I then heard nothing and rang during the first week in January, their systems continued to show the same thing but (from memory) I think their systems also suggested the car wasn't built. I haven't really been given an answer as to what happened but I suspect some late spec changes and Christmas didn't help.

When I was looking for an RS6 there were at least two dealer demo cars on loan to, what I was told was, customers who had had delayed deliveries.

I like the way matt paint cars look and I think some of the scare stories are not totally true but I do know that you simply cannot just get a fella to invisibly polish away or touch up a scratch, the whole panel usually has to be done. Almost every car I've had in recent years has been scratched and professional touched up in one way or another.

I test drove a car with the Bose sound system and it was absolutely fine. I'm sure the B&O system would be better but you don't miss what you haven't had and as you said it is an expensive option. I have little to no intention to track the car so the ceramic discs would have been a near pointless expense. One of the youtube reviews suggests that the car can stop better than a GTR with the steel discs anyway!

I had a concern about not going for the carbon pack with carbon mirrors and my original spec had both. However I actually think the grey car looks better with aluminium look.

Overall the only thing I would have like to have had is the exclusive leather on the dash and Alcantara headlining but it would have (probably) delayed the car.

I haven't seen a single RS6 looking better than this:

Anybody waiting more than 5 months for RS6?

Post by doodlebug » Fri Jan 24, 2014 9:32 pm

Have Stafford offered any discount? They were the one group who didn't offer me a bean!

I think you once you've owned and driven the car you'd get why ceramics are good. I didn't have them on my C6, but the C7 will.

I like the HUD but the actual unit is pretty Heath Robinson and that's put me off....I don't need it, per se.

i second that on the brake doodle, when the car is driven like its ment to then you will need ramics, my brakes on the C6 where shocking, rubbish in fact.

Yes, pretty good discount tbh..

I can understand why the ceramics would be good but I have steel on the M5 and the RS6 is supposed to be quite a margin better so it isn't of massive importance to me.

Not sure about your comments about the HUD. The M5 unit is pretty good and it doesn't sit proud on the dash like the RS6 version. It also has a special M5 mode for changing gear which is pretty useful and I don't think the Audi version has the equivalent mode. However, overall, regardless of the aesthetics of the Audi version, it doesn't detract from the dash much and I find having a HUD very useful especially when combined with a speed limit display!

Sorry for going offtopic.
My build week is now down to w10.
I went for the steel brakes.
Last year i drove my rs4 b8 btg 8.24 and the brakes were great (steel)
Arent the steel ones on the c7 a little bigger than on the b8? Just by the look they do look bigger i think.
Also. I havent gone for any extra phone prep, why is this good to have. Im using iphone 5s, offcourse i need to be able to stream spotify and call handsfree, my dealer said it should work!
It would be cool if when each member gets their car, start a thread lots of pictures and first impressions!? Sort of an unboxing? :redrs4: :beerchug:

Found the video I was thinking of. As far as I can see he is testing the steel brake version. It does mention it in the text overlays but also the daylight gap (around 3:24) between the wheel rim and the edge of the disc looks too large for the ceramic brake and the rear brake looks like it has a waved edge. Not exactly conclusive proof of course!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuTZSekmu3w#t=221

It appears that they were testing a car on the air suspension but again not 100% sure.

I'm not sure if the high prep is important or not. As far as I could see it just allows you to use wifi hotspots and provides google earth images and so on. It's £200 more than low prep so I just went for it!

In the brochure there is mention of a sim card slot but only with the high prep.. This would potentially be a good thing for me.

My car is now at the dealers. :jump_clap:

The car in the video is on steel. They are OK, but they won't take repetitive full on stopping and their life expectancy isn't great. They aren't cheap to replace.

Audi connect/prep high allows the car to be a hotspot. It either uses a SIM or BT tether for comms, you'll need a phone that supports SAP for the later, i.e. not an iPhone. The car's hardware supports 3G, 4G support only available on the A3 currently.

Doodle.. you are like a walking encyclopedia. :)

Actually I totally agree with you comment about the discs.. however I am personally unlikely to need to replace the discs while I own the car and I'm hoping not to have to do repetitive emergency stops

This is a rather camera distorted pic of my car at Stafford Audi:

Looks great! I was tempted myself with going red/black and I probably would have gone with an Audi Pre-reg demo with a very similar spec to yours (same colour, carbon mirrors, carbon pack, black wheels) if it hadn't have been sold on the day I called about it!
