Warning lights, TCU message

Post by taspland » Tue Jan 21, 2014 9:43 am

Hello Guys,
got traction and abs lights on my dashboard this morning, in 1st gear feels in safe mode, like something is holding it back, but that stopped once I turned the engine off and on again, but will probably come back,

Cleared fault code but this ones stays

Faults Found:
18034 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from TCU
P1626 - 35-00 - -

Any Ideas?

It's an unusual one, especially if it's not intermittent.

Sounds like either a CAN wiring problem or bad TCU.

You had water ingress recently? Carpets wet?

Not from what i have seen, it only came up this morning and it was really cold last night so throught something might have frozen.

i'll pull off the covers for the TCU and check for any water and cables are seated at lunch.

Definitely. Try cleaning up those contacts and see if it fixes the problem. Do / did you have a water ingress problem? Even if resolved it can take a while for the contacts to corrode to the point where they no longer conduct.

Might be worth opening the TCU to see if there's any damage inside.

I have never had water ingress but that's not saying i've never had it or noticed it.

i'm going to give them a scrub with contact cleaner the best i can and give it ago,

I would open it up but looking at it i'm not sure the best way to do that so might leave opening it. for the moment

Well after a big scrub with cotton buds and contact cleaner..

IT WORKS !!! :D

Thanks for the help. and strangly the airbag light has gone out now which i had the drivers side igniter exceeded.
i did re press on all the connectors in the footwell so maybe one of them was loose..

but am happy as just saved me a few hundred quid i'm sure.. :)
