i have never read of anyone in the uk running the jhm rs4 tune. i know a couple of people have the tune for the s4 which showed good results when dynoed.Cecilthesausage wrote:Does anybody have the JHM software on there car on here.... the only two people who i would let tune my car would be mrc or jhm, forget anyone else.
i am already mrc tuned but i am going in a new direction for 2014.
i will have a jhm tuning cable sometime in january and i only live in darlo so if you fancy the jhm tune you can borrow the cable no problem.

just a quick question if you had the cable to use what would you need to buy? do you need to buy a licenced version of the map or once you have the cable can you map to your harts content??

In my experience, Tuning an n/a car is more about finding the specifics of the variations in the car parts.
Also being in South Africa could lead to some other variations from an off the shelf tune.
It'd be worth seeing what is available on a dyno locally and tune via that maybe using one of the others as a basis.

Custom tuning on an na car at the best of times is overrated. Custom tuning on a motronic based car which offers a knowledgeable calibrator incredible elasticity and control means custom tuning makes even less sense for bolt on cars.
We are talking about minor mods. Nobody is doing headwork and cam work. We are talking basic bolt on parts like lw parts, downpipes and catbacks for 99% of the guys who get remapped.
The JHM off the shelf tune has shown time and time again that these custom tuning options are not the best choice. Reality is the custom tuned cars are SLOWER. Funny how that works out.
For the record most of these tunes out there make half a dozen changes or less. Timing changes, lean out the rich stock AFR a bit, eliminate 1-2-3 gear torque based throttle limiter...raise rev limit, eliminate speed limiter and whammo... £500/$800 please.
JHM makes over 100 changes in their B7 RS4 calibration . Yes 100+. I have discussed at length with their calibrator what he does and it's staggering when you compare it to the other tunes on the market.

You use the cable to connect your car and log in to their secure server with a laptop. It's quite simple I was surprised to find out. I have a cable and a friend came over and used it to tune his rs4. You log in and the software walks you through it. I believe now they have their own little browser you can download.
You need to pay them in advance of course. You get access to the file, and load it up, then you're done. It figures out what car and file you will need based on your ecu via the cable hooked up to your car. You can't log on and swap it out every four days... One shot deal.
I would suggest sending a vag com scan of your ecu information to JHM in advance to ensure they have a file for you. Once in a blue moon someone tries to map an ecu with a weird one off part number etc and that can give the server some confusion. Easy remedy to do that step in advance and have JHM confirm it.
Email v8@jhmotorsports.com with any questions. That's what I do. Their calibrator, who also works at the performance division of one of the world's largest automakers, checks that email address periodically for calibration specific questions.

Or all apart from JHM?

sakamino is in love with JHM just look at 99% of his posts,thing is he's miles away in Canada, if he came over and had a custom MRC map he would understand why most people get them to do the work, if you want a basic generic map then go to AMD doesn't sound like a JHM map is any better TBHOr all apart from JHM?

Oh I agree tuning a stock or near stock na is usually not worth the hassle - manufacturer maps whilst having to be generic and to a degree if part tolerance are usually not that bad.

As I mentioned above even a basic tune will yield some gain by just leaving out our rich AFR (not to lean, but just not rich) and turning off the torque limiter.
However if I was buying a map for my RS4 or S4 or any NA Audi I would want some significant gains and performance proof of those gains. I would want the best available option.
It's funny, people like Silas will call me a JHM fan boy at every opportunity because I guess it hurts his feelings that another company is producing better results than his favourites. I really don't know. I support JHM because they have produced excellent results for us. Quantifiable, repeatable results, far better than any other company. It's easy to support them (and confusing to me why people like Silas talk shyte all the time... Is he really this ignorant about the RS4 marketplace?)
But if anyone can show me ANY of the tuners that have produced anywhere near the results JHM have with these NA motor Audis I will be happy to look. I have asked this of Silas and the other two or three smartarses who always do this. They have never produced anything...just more BS.
The B6/7 S4 was a great example. In the beginning the usual Audi tuning companies produced tunes that made nominal to zero gains. They were typically used to tuning turbocharged cars where making a simple boost request can deliver 50+hp and tq gains. Separating yourself from the herd when everyone makes 50 quick hp is tough.
But on the naturally aspirated B6/7 S4 it really was a different formula needed for success. Then JHM came along and absolutely dominated everything anyone else had put out for the platform. The guy who owns the company came from a background of racing V8 NA cars. The calibrator did too, and his day job sees him working with the performance division of a major automaker where the company has focused on NA engine power for 80 years. Their results crushed the rest and now if you get your S4 tuned, people realise it doesn't make much sense to look elsewhere. The RS4 community is still for part of it, clinging to custom tuning and the companies who had success with turbo cars. Here in the UK there is a faction mentioned above who rebel without looking at the facts. I guess that's their prerogative. Let them be slow.

Show me ANYTHING that says AMD can keep up with JHM. Or MRC.

Can't wait for 'these cars weren't made for the dragstrip' as an excuse. I agree they weren't...but it's a very effective tool to measure power and acceleration gains.
last time I checked we aren't spending £4000 on mods to get a smoother idle and a little fuel efficiency. We are trying to accelerate faster with a remap, downpipes, exhaust etc.

Sounds good, and petrol there and back?? I'm not a fan of AMD as I have had one of their maps, and was not impressed, but I do think if you have a no of mods done at the same time like I have had done, ie ported and de flapped manifold, JHM, yes JHM spacers, de carbon, cats gutted,exhaust etc, a custom map is the way forward, saki is going to disagree no doubt, but I'm not bothered, it's just a car not worth getting to irate about IMOIn fact I will put my money where your mouth is. I WILL PAY YOUR ENTRY FEE.

You can certainly have an opinion silas . However talking <beep> to me because I support JHM makes no sense. If you want to rationally debate the subject with facts and evidence to support your claims, I'm all for it. But get over this bull.
As for custom tune vs JHM, to me the evidence is pretty strong that custom, from MRC there or EPL over here...has zero advantage over JHM and in fact the JHM cars are faster. Fortunately the quarter mile at certified tracks is pretty consistent continent to continent, so we can test the cars.
Heck go do an Arthur test on a flat Road and show us the video of the tachometer with the stop watch running. Anything.
