Tyres and general wear

Post by the911 sc » Wed Dec 04, 2013 6:45 pm

Hi All,
Picking up tomorrow so finally need to decide on whether to add tyre/service to the deal.

How often are people going through tyres and what are average service costs?

My quote is 53.40 per month (based on only 5K tho) so its breaking even I am guessing.
Car will be on fixed interval service.

Tyres 10-15k depending on how driven. Service every two years give or take, 400-500 notes.

Personally I'd not pay it on the basis that I might sell the car before it needs any work.

I signed up but I will probably cancel it - I have 28 days before they would take the first 57 quid...

1st service is 205, second 270.. Tyres 220 each..

Its the disks and pads that are $$$!

I only do 8k a year in the Audi, the garage told me it wasnt worth taking out the cover for such little miles. I was in no position with a stealer refusing to take my money....

I was of the same opinion until I was told the brakes were £2k for front or back and expect them to be replaced every 15k miles, didn't want to take the risk so I will go for it.

I think first service is nearer £600 from memory

Ditto.

And I can't see you needing discs at 15k!!

I think you've been sold a line there.

I'd be pissed if I was replacing discs as a matter of course at 15k.

Mine's on 13.5k and squealing issue aside, the front discs are still reasonable, but the rears are starting to lip up quite badly. This is probably due to the stability control (I forget the three letter acronym) brakes the rear wheels individually to control yaw and wheelspin, so whenever you push on, you're dragging the back brakes quote a bit
I can't see them lasting past 20k, and as they're waved ones too, I'm expecting them to be pricy

No, First service is 205 second 270 due to a pollen filter change - the service dept looked it up and printed out the quote for me - if anyone is charged 600 for basically an oil change and filter then your dealer is having you on!
