I think and have sort of had confirmation it is more likely to be one of the cam adjusters rather than a slipped chain or dodgy adjuster tbh but as it's coming out might as well do the lot plus she has done just over 100,000 miles so even more reason to change the lot for the future. I could just change the cam adjuster in situ but would be a false economy in the long run.

Sorry no real updates as yet. Have hopefully found a local workshop but have been away for a long weekend in Amsterdam and only got back today so nothing organised yet. Am gutted she wasn't running right as if had been here would have been at AMD for the rolling road day. Sounded like a wicked day and would be interested to see how she compares power wise especially as she has done just ove 100k! I will post more as things happen.

I have a date set for the work. I have managed to procure a workshop locally and will be starting work on the 2nd of december. Hopefully should only take me two to three days. Will get lots of pics during and create an album once done :thumb:

Feeling quite gutted. Due to an ongoing lower back injury it looks like it is going to be booked into somewhere for them to do it for me. Have contacted mid kent technical and s line in Ashford for quotes. Still waiting for either to get back to me. Did get a quote from AMD which was just over £3500 which tbh is more than I can afford. The parts are about £1200 and the rest was labour. Not knocking them one bit.

Thats a shame for you Batfink but on a plus side at least i guess you wont have to get your hands dirty now. Hope your injury sorts itself out quickl for you. I keep reading more and more instances of these problems with our S4's :audibash:

Cheers and thank you. It looks like trapped and inflammed nerves inbetween the bones between the coxcix and social bones. It feels like being punched in the spine whilst someone twists the nerves with a pair of pliers so not really enjoyable. Even more gutting as am a trained mechanic so was well up for the challenge. I'm sure I read the B7 ones were uprated from the B6. I did take her for a drive today. Still runs ok but feels pretty gutless compared to what she should be like.

That sounds nasty and very painful.
Maybe one of these independant specialists who are capable of pulling our engines and replacing the chains/tensioners/guides would be up for like a group buy type thing whereby if a few of us wanted it done they may be able to offer the work a bit cheaper as by the 2nd, 3rd or fourth go in quick successsion they might be able to trim their labour times down a touch. Just a thought

Well worth asking them. I contacted mid kent on tuesday and am still waiting for a reply from them. Not really promising if it takes them this long for just an estimate quote. How long would it take them to actually do the work? I called them back thursday and they said will call me back later that day but still nothing.

Took the car down to S Line Autos this afternoon for them to do a VCDS scan. Sort of confirmed it is either timing a tooth out or cam adjuster shot. Will be dropping it off sat morning for the work to be started. They say they can replace the top end tensioners and cam adjusters with the engine in place which if so will be a right result. They seem to know their stuff which is always a good sign and they were more than helpful today. May well be another inde useful for our stuff down this way. The guy has rebuilt several RS6 boxes too so could be useful for them too.

Plus they are in the process of setting up a 4wd rolling road so may be another place in the future for remaps etc. :biggrin3:

Oh nuts. Not what I wanted to hear. The top chains are absolutely fine. Looks like it is the intermidiate chain that is at fault so engine is coming out. Bill is up to at least £2400 now :(

:( That's not good news for you mate. It would have been great if the problem was with the top ones and they could have fixed the problem with the engine in place. What a shame. These cars are a PITA sometimes but we still love them, just. The bill's at £2400 at the moment, I'm hoping for you that some of that pay's towards the engine pull and the necessary work to fix the problem or does the new work start a new bill? Gulp.
