Take note Audi UK - as a result of this footage, I definitely will not be buying a B8 RS4 unless a fix is introduced and I wont be the only one I am sure.
It could be an inside job (espec if dealership who supplied the car also had one stolen) but there must still be a weakness as this wasn't possible with normal key cars.
Tracker found in 12 mins? Suspicious to say the least.

Not suspicious in the least - Trackers are fitted in so few different locations and are so easily defeated anyway - that professional thieves such as these can easily find them, so any Tracker is IMHO a complete and utter waste of money.

I agree about trackers. Not only are they very easily located by theives, but also, for me, if some thriving git has it away with my car, I don't want it back anyway thanks....

Do you think this affects just keyless cars or all types?

I'm off to buy a disklok if this turns into the shambles BMW have had?

Only ever seen CCTV footage of key less cars going like this with the OBD port exploited.
With a B7, a theft without a key going from owner is most likely a key going missing in the past or a previous owner (dealer/auction employee) getting a spare, keeping it and later stealing car.

Whilst I don't have a RS4 (still counting pennies) I have new A4 which is susceptible to this - have resorted to disklok now too ( linked with insurance and gap insurance not much more you can do.... Good to see my topic on piston heads generated some discussion though!

Unbelievable....I thought the recoding of new keys in car was only on later type Bmw's (of which loads have been taken in Birmingham). To get the RS model normally required your house to be broken into or the car to be taken from you.

What takes the piss further is this chap lives less than half a mile from the local police station in his area and these goons blatantly don't give a <beep>, look at the chap holding the front door in case the owner comes down.

I feel sorry for the owner as he likes his cars, he has a B7 RS4 same time I had mine, R32 and a new shape S4 estate which looked 'toned' down to blend in, before his RS4....

Not good to have a nice car on the drive of the suburbs of Brum!
Mortgages, Insurance, Financial Matters.....need help....ask away
RS4.....another :-)

About the time taken to remove the passenger glovebox...
But as a non-Tracker tracker it'll be using mobile phone data and GPS sensor. Trivial to jam for pennies.
At least Tracker uses frequency jumping VHF and doesn't totally rely on GPS.

The obvious answer to me is that you can't have the car as a single point of authentication.
The issue is that eu rules on competition make this tricky.
So just take a leaf out of SSL...
You need a trusted independent 3rd party to issue short term 'certificates' valid only for say 2 minutes.
To program the key you need both the hardware, unique if the car and a temp certificate to program the keys...

Or the eu gain some common sense and exclude car security from this.

The annoying thing is like the BMW it appears the sidelight window doesn't trigger the alarm?

There was a previous post here about a theft like this from Bury St Edmunds Audi of a B8 RS4.

If they work out the hack on RS4, the theft will soon spread to other B8s.
adsgreen wrote:The annoying thing is like the BMW it appears the sidelight window doesn't trigger the alarm?
The alarm did go off but they were careful how they broke the window - maybe just to stop the glass going everywhere.
They must be getting new windows from somewhere.

I think the process was;
break window
someone leans in and plugs device in [alarm goes off]
someone else does the coding standing outside the car
person who leant in then climbs in and clambers into the back out of shot [not sure if alarm is still going off but if not their device has shut the alarm off before coding the key]
he then comes back to passenger seat and puts the new key in the slot which allows him to unlock the car and off they go

For them to not be bothered about the alarm is scarey

I was driving in Hall Green, Birmingham last Monday and saw a Sepang B8 RS4 Avant going the other way with no front number plate, back plate I think was an OV62 ***
Saw driver clearly and while you can't make judgements like this he wasn't a solicitor.
If you are going to clone a plate, almost definitely it will be an OV62 or OY62.
Very few traffic police cars around these days to take an interest.

Maxb, which part of Brum was this?

The BMW issue was also that the OBD port was live when the ignition was off so you didn't need a working key to code a new key.
If any B8 owner has VCDS, it would be interesting to know if that was the case here.
Maybe the car was tampered with during the PDI process as any old technician does the final pre-handover checks or even a valeter?
