In the late seventies (yeah, I am that old  ) a mate of mine was working offshore from Aberdeen on the rigs and was earning serious money as a pipeline weld inspector. He was a scruffy sod, like me (I was a long-haired student) and we enjoyed spending his hard-earned brass. He already had a Ferrari Dino and a 280 Capri but he wanted another motor. One Saturday we walked into the main Ford dealer in the city and there was a new Daytona Yellow RS2000 sitting in the centre of the showroom looking fantastic. The 2 salesmen barely gave us a second glance and carried on yapping to each other and reading mags A well-dressed couple came in and the salesmen swung into action, fussing round them in a futile bid to sell them a Granada and ignoring us. After they'd left, one of the guys sidled over to us and asked in a rather sneering fashion if he could interest us in a car, adding that the used vehicles were on the forecourt. John piped up "I'll take it", nodding towards the RS. The salesman told him he could arrange finance at very favourable terms etc. John pulled out a wedge of cash and proceeded to count out the full asking price in tenners on the desk. The guy's jaw dropped, he stammered a bit and told his colleague to get the 'gentlemen' a coffee. We collected the car the next day with a full tank. Happy days!

Mark - I'd definitely put a call into the dealer principal a Coventry Audi about your treatment. He/she needs to be aware of your concern. Good luck in your search, lucky fella :D

I'd kick off tbh , my first run in with polar ford was a bit odd as I wanted a certain spec / colour sportvan and spotted it on their website in the showroom , went up on a sat lunch and they were shut and no vehicle , tried chasing em up with no return of calls etc then found out later after giving the dealer principle a kick up the arse that it was never in stock and it was an old image for vans possibly due in a few months in a diff colour and spec ( bit pointless ) .... After my huffing I got a cracking deal !!

It is disgusting the way they judge people on they way they are dressed. I used to work at a inde dealer in Loughton where I grew up and what started my interest and love of cars. We never judged a single person walking through the door by what they were wearing and we used to have at least 80% of people return to buy a second car from us. I remember one guy who brought a Vauxhall Carlton CDi from us. He looked a bit scruffy but was actually a heli cop and was a thoroughly nice chap. Everybody got the same treatment regardless which is the way it should be everywhere.

I don't think it's general dealer behaviour in this day and age, but perhaps an isolated incident at Coventry with the OP.
I was in the Porsche dealer today and asked the sales manager about this very subject. He said many of his customers don't look like they can afford the clothes they're wearing, let alone a 100k car
They treat everyone the same and field a few short taster questions to see if they're potential buyers or not. At only then that they're attentiveness changes accordingly

I have used Stafford Audi recently and that has been the worst experience with Audi yet, NEVER AGAIN. To be fair to Wolvo and Halesowen they may have got better, I haven't used either of them for around 5 years cause they were very poor.
I usually use either MRC or UNIT20.

My C6 is booked in to Stafford Audi.

Pads for ceramic brakes (supplied and fitted) £350.00 - The pads alone cost that
Oil/Filter Change £150 (I will supply my own oil)
Labour to change plugs (5 hours!) £150, that's £30 an hour! (I already have OEM plugs)
Free loan car

Bargain.

Edit: The above deal the service manager put together, they didn't get back to me the first time so think they did it as a goodwill thing.

Glad you all started this thread

I was about to write a letter to Audi HQ about my rubbish experience with Audi Sales. (Camberley, Basingstoke and Amersham).

Had the RS4 for 3 years - time for a change. Wanted to test drive the RS5 and R8. emailed asking for a booking. Got a call back a few days later. Said they didn't have a 'driveable' one but I could take a look at the one in the showroom (already seen it and sat in it thx). Asked if they would look further around their chain. 7 days later they emailed me saying they couldn't find one but would keep looking. A week after this - another email saying - sorry we just don't have one to drive but I could still look at the one in the showroom !!!

Ridiculous ! So - I have given up and I am very sorry to say I am going to AMG. As somebody commented before - u just lost 65k Audi. And its not the first time - 2 other members of my family have had very similar experiences over the past 3 years.

If you think Audi dealers are snobby and selective about their customer attention, you want to try a high end audio store or a decent watch outlet

I've had that with watches funnily enough dismissed out of hand for a Rolex and ended going down to Swiss watches in chiswick and getting one there and then ( at a few quid over retail ) no problems

In my experience, watch outlets are the worst. I bought a Chopard Mille miglia, and the shop insisted I made an appointment. It was almost comical, as when I turned up the guy gave me a full look up and down before he'd entertain my request. It's not like it was a £30k Hublot or some boutique brand.
I was wearing an IWC at the time, and once he saw that, the coffee was poured and I was his best mate all of a sudden.

My local Ferrari dealer are super friendly to everyone. You walk through the door and instantly you're offered a drink and someone comes over and says hello. They get their fair amount of dreamers, but I guess they just know its not good business practice to be rude to anyone as you never know
Frankly, I'm shocked at Coventry Audi and I'd hope it was a one off
Both Swindon and Bath Audi dealerships seem to be very friendly and welcoming to all their customers

I see the same at Porsche in Guildford. Fantastic service and no judgement in sight. Am not a huge Porsche fan but to have consistently great service was enough for me to test-drive a few newer cars...

It's all about creating opportunity. Why do shop workers who stand behind a counter on 20k/year think they are in any way above the rest of society.

i must say when i went to see my RS4 at Stirling Audi the salesman came right over to me( i was in scruffs too ) and asked if i was needing assistance , i said , aye i,m thinking of buying that RS4 over there , within 5 mins we were on the dueller caning it :D the deal was done that day :-) .
on a side note i got myself a limited edition titanium Brietling watch ( 50 made ) for my 40th , the strap was needing adjusted as it was sometimes a touch tight by the end of the day , i was in edinburgh and saw a posh jeweller Shop which was a breitling retailer amongst many other quality watches , again i was in my usual trainers ,jeans and shirt , the guy on the door looked me up and down and let me in , i wandered around a bit and had a look at some watches , etc , the 3 counter staff never batted an eyelid , after a few minutes i walked up to counter and got the standard how can help you , then i took off my watch and it changed immediately they adjusted the bracelet there and then, gave it a quick clean (not that it needed it ) and never even charged me lol , got a brochure, business cards etc . just shows you dont need to be in a suit to be able to purchase expensive stuff lol .
Phantom black saloon ,PES M112 Supercharged 520ps/595nm K&N filter, 100 cell milltek cats, res valved milltek system. 8 and 10mm H&R spacers.H&R roll bars, "smoke chrome " alloy refurb.
