Re: RS4 b7 DIY engine mount replacement guide
Did my B5 RS4 about 6 weeks ago. Took ALL day. Had to pull all turbo pipe work off motor, remove subframe and jack motor up relative to chassis. Had to fashion a special bent 13mm ring spanner and still struggled to get to the top nut on the mounts. Then had to try and put all the turbo pipe work back - very limited space and access.
I know it's not a B7 , but I suspect there is less room around the B7 motor and no ability to pull bits off
I think Tony is right!
By the way you will need a hoist and another jack to lift the motor - you could not do it on the ground or on jack stands ( without major difficulty)
Graze

It's really easy to get the bottom support/console off from underneath, but that leaves you with one 13mm nut which is apparently impossible to get to. It's kinda nestled between the manifold headers.sar wrote:hahaha lol, bit of a nightmare eh?.
4 hours of my life on my back and one bent 13mm spanner I'll never get back. Let the jokes roll in.

Yeah, on the b7, you can *just* about see the 13mm top nut from above but can't get through from above between the headers even with my "special" 5-wobble-bars-connected-together device. I bent my 13mm ring spanner into all kinds of shapes but still couldn't get to it from underneath. I got the engine supported ok, with a jack and big piece of timber, raised it just enough to take weight off mount.Graze wrote:Did my B5 RS4 about 6 weeks ago. Took ALL day. Gave up after 4 hours and booked into local indy who's quoted me 2 hours labour.
I'm intrigued to know how grizz did it last time! - but I wonder if the combination of work I had done (fitted downpipes) gave them easier access.
Btw I'm having to do it again because I bought an engine mount off a guy in Manchester. This new engine mount worked really well at changing the fault I had from "Short to ground" to "Short to plus". False economy!

It's just the left mount that's giving me fault codes.caldy wrote:You only done the one side then???

Do you have to do 4WA again if engine mounts have been disturbed?
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Wouldn't have thought so, it's only the ARB thats unbolted from the mounts.sonny wrote:Do you have to do 4WA again if engine mounts have been disturbed?

Re: RS4 b7 DIY engine mount replacement guide
had my passenger side active mount done by MRC when it went up for the last wallet emptying exercise. Hours labour ? maybe hour and a half. didn't even get my hands dirty
however if its any consolation Tony on saturday I spent 3 hours yes 3 hours fitting some new pedals to the rs4. took the old ones off easy enough but could I get the new ones back on again - NO !!! did eventually after a lot of swearing and a small amount of sobbing !
you need to be behind the pedals or have xray vision to get them back on again. I would have given up but once they are off you are left with some small smooth metal pads which wouldn't be good to drive with..

I hate giving up, but at 11.30pm I had to concede I'd just wasted an evening. Fortunately, I hadn't done anything that wasn't easy to put back together

Re: RS4 b7 DIY engine mount replacement guide
Actually it was the subframe bolts i was thinking of.TonyHayers wrote:Wouldn't have thought so, it's only the ARB thats unbolted from the mounts.sonny wrote:Do you have to do 4WA again if engine mounts have been disturbed?

Re: RS4 b7 DIY engine mount replacement guide
its a pain when things dont fo to plan, when i took the bumper off last the tip torx bolt snapped , came off easily enough the first few times i took it off, had to order part of the front of the car just for a snapped bolt,
i get
005491 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144)
P1573 - 004 - Open Circuit - Intermittent
every now and then was thinking of just doing it myself but is this side a royal pita too?
how much are the mounts?

The left side is the one that's gone on mine. The mounts are retail 188+vat but TPS gave me a small discount so it was 166+vat (£199 ish).Rick_RS4 wrote:its a pain when things dont fo to plan, when i took the bumper off last the tip torx bolt snapped , came off easily enough the first few times i took it off, had to order part of the front of the car just for a snapped bolt,
