personally, I'd want it to go to Audi. Had bad experience with my RS2 that went to the Insurance Cos "local approved" [bodgers]

really feel for you. I'd be totally gutted :(

If you can find a second hand set of bucket seats, expect to pay roughly around £2,000 for them which is what I paid a couple of months back from a guy on this forum. He had his originals stolen in exactly the same way from your neck of the woods.
That would be me then! Mine was broken into and the did the same thing, took the seats, ripped out the interior light as it has the alarm ultrasonics in it.

Eventually I got a payout and bought the car back for 35% of the payout. Getting seats wasn't too bad, I happened to find a set on ebay for £2k, though they were saloon ones and mine is a cabrio. I used the seats for a while until I managed to get a set of cabrio ones then got the leather from Audi and got them re-upholstered

Respray and interior repairs - 3k
Seats - 2k
Leather - 2k
Leather fitting - 500

There was lots of agro involved but I got a car that I knew at the end of it. I could have looked for a different car but knowing the history of mine was a bonus

Sorry to hear about yours and thanks for your information. Its very true, spent a fair bit getting this one right. The gap insurance I have covers upto 15k between their settlement and invoice price (again not sure if its that simple) Do the insurance company offer the car back or do you have to ask for this? The front door has some small dents and scratches, scratches to the rear door, scratches on bumper, then the inside trim so I am sure the cost back from the garage may be pricy. Might also give a friend at audi a call (but he is a mechanic) to see if he can find out what they do if they would have to quote for seats.

In understand why earlier so many were pointing me in the direction of seats for sale and other options :-) sorry took a bit of time for me to catch on!!

Woah, is that a typo? You got an £8k payout for a write-off? :o

kd: hope you manage to get something sorted out that you're happy with.

Tony, I don't think it was his RS.

KD, gutted for you and it pains me to hear of yet another horror story to a fellow RS onwer.
It's the hassle of having to sort everything out that can be worse than the actual crime itself (badly worded I think, but you get my drift).

Sorry to hear this KD, totally gutted for you.

Any CCTV footage? What did the Police say?

This is something we dont need, going to be paranoid leaving car on the streets now, SW London does seem to be a prime area...few incidents in that and surrounding areas now.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Hi guys thanks for the comments and suggestions. Its absolutely right, its the hassle of dealing with the incident and now sorting everything out which is more irritating. Now its gone for a while you realise the fun factor you have getting in the car and going for a drive :-)

The police were actually pretty good but shocked at what happened, I tried to explain the seats are costly but it didn't really sink in, but they were very good and were sending forensics to the garage and pick up whatever they can. They went to all the CCTV (which there were a lot of on this road, which is why I parked there) but they said most were in active or pointing the wrong way. There was one that is a good one that records red route offences that will capture who came in and out of the road (as it has a dead end) so they said they would go through the timings and see what they could find. They were a lot more proactive than I expected. They went to the workers close by and to anywhere they saw CCTV to approach them.
I now have a hire car to pick up for today to drive to meetings and all they had was A class cars available, not that I am a car snob, but on a hot sunny day, long drive on the A3 I was looking forward to take the RS for a cleanout :-)

Yeah! it wasn't the RS but the wife's Touareg!

I don't think they will offer for you to buy it back but raise the point with the valuer and see what comes back. I think if it's written off by your own insurance company they don't HAVE to let you buy it back (its somewhere in the contract i believe) however, the Touareg was written off by the insurance company of the numpty who drove into it when parked, so I had no contract with them and they were obliged to let me buy it back.

FYI - The value of written off (Cat C & D) cars is crazy ATM, most that go to auction (look a Coparts website) go to Eastern europe to be fixed up and in the process 'lose' their VIC marker as a written off vehicle. As an example the Touraeg i bought for 2K would have went at auction for about 4-5K i reckon! its crazy!

There's defiantly something iffy going on between the estimators who price up the cost to fix the car and company's like Copart. Due mainly to massive valve of written off cars i reckon. The estimators quoted 7.5K to fix the Touareg when even at VW prices the work would have cost no more that 3-4K, they even made up fictitious faults with the car to increase the estimated cost to repair. In my eye's the estimators are in collaboration with companies like coparts to fill their auctions with cars that have been written off by extortionate/false estimations to fix.

Anyway, sorry to thread hijack! Hope it gets sorted soon.

No it's very useful information, thank you.
Just at the garage now and he said they have had 4 this year. All written off but the damage is worse in mine as the others they got the door open. They took the seatbelts as well.
He will do the estimate but reckons it will be written off :-(

Really sorry to hear this, what a nightmare. Glad to hear your local police are being pro-active in investigating.
