Yup, looks like my calculations from Adrian's setup were off. His wheels are only 9" wide at ET20/22 (after spacers), not 9.5". I'll still try just to make sure, but looks like I'll need to step down to 35mm adapters to be safe, since there's not a 40mm version.

35mm would work well with 265 tyres (effectively giving you another 5mm width either side if the wheel) if only you could get them at the same profile as 255, but I don't think there is a combo that works. 265/30/20 will be taller than 255/30/20 and will give you rubbing issues. To give you an idea of how fine the tolerances are I rub on the back with standard suspension and 265/30/20 on 9" wheels with ET26!!!! And that's with no passengers or spacers, but 255/30/19 on a 9" wheel with ET29 and 10mm spacer (giving ET19) is fine.

I went down the 20 inch wheel road and after some rubbing issues and the proportions not seeming right for the wheel I chose have eventually come back to the standard 19 inch wheel. Instead I ended up lowering the car and after much play have a stance that I love that has no rubbing issues........yet :P

Fair play to those who can get the stance right with 20's on though as they do look great :jump_clap:

If your 265/30R20 rub at ET26, 255/30R20s will likely rub at ET16. I know it's not always as straight forward as the maths suggests (different tyres have sharper shoulders, some stretch more on the same wheel etc etc) but I'm getting more and more used to the idea of getting smaller adapters being a necessary next step. I might even keep going down the path of finding 5x112 wheels I like and spacing them more responsibly.

Adrian, it's not your fault, I was just getting excited and didn't do my homework properly. If they don't fit... does anyone want some H&R 5x130-5x112 45mm adapters? They're like new.

Wheels are going on tomorrow. As Samuel L Jackson said in Jurassic Park: "Hold on to your butts."

Will report back on whether ET15 is a shade too far for 20"x9J or whether I've just discovered the absolute limit.

Short answer - no, not going to work. Might not rub, but too far out anyway. Will get narrower adapters and try again, these things are properly chunky.

35mm adapters?!

I ran over 5 types of wheel combo on my old R32 and to be honest was never too concerned about running chunky adapters/spacers because it wasn't in the same stable as the RS, but 35mm ones on a car with over 400hp is it really advisable?

I wouldn't run 20mm ones, maybe I'm being over cautious.
