Gearbox locked in gear
Re: Gearbox locked in gear
You could prob check your TCU for water damage.
If you can't go to the track, bring the track to you.

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
Would hurt to swap the TCU with someone else. If anyone's local? i would have thought that it would throw errors if it was faulty, though.
Sounds like it hasn't got enough pressure to get out of park, until you rev the nuts off it in which case it goes into 5th. At least in 5th you'd be able to pull it back. What happens if you rev it in D with your foot on the brake then try to pull it backwards once it's engaged 5th (not revving at this point, obviously).

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
Im going to take a video of how it is now to hopefully give a better idea of what i'm trying! Now that you mention the 'reving to 5th' idea, it makes sense to me so ill try that later and see how i get on.
I dont think there is an issue with the TCU as before I parked the car, apart from the gearbox, everything was 100%. It has been in the garage for almost 2 months now so no water would have got into it between then and now

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
When I leave my car for a week or more then the pads bind to the disks and need quite a lot of force to break free. Just a thought.
/edit: when I put it away wet, that is.

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
Have a view of this quick video below which hopefully shows my problem a bit better. I will try activating limp mode later (by revving a while) and see if I can pull the car back with my other car. Im on my own at the mo so I cant do it right now.

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
Have you been able to move the car forward? Even a little bit? I'm thinking of the binding brakes...

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
OK, the revs go up to 1500. Is that you who stops there or do you feel resistance? I'm still thinking of binding brakes...
If you jack both rear wheels off the ground, can you turn one by hand?

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
No, the issue isnt the brakes, its the gearbox. I will make another video now, showing me rev right up to 7,000RPM, with the same result. If it goes into Limp mode, I will try to push it back. I havent tried jacking the car up. I know there is about 5 mm movement between the brakes and the discs as I rock the car back and forward. But then its like hitting a brick wall and it will not move any further (gearbox locked in gear methinks).

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
Sounds like the car won't come out of park then.
Maybe your selector cable as come off / snapped.
Can you plug the Vagcom in and see what gear the gearbox thinks it is in when you move the selector? Might be an easy fix.
/edit: cat - the first link you posted showed me a cat before you fixed it.

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
Can you confirm that the pads are clear on all FOUR wheels and not just the back axle ? Although its more likely to be the back axle being held on by the handbrake.

Re: Gearbox locked in gear
Lets hope it's not the brakes binding...if they suddenly un-bind themselves when you're in D with 7k on the rev counter it could be catastrophic(ly funny)
