Re: Bye bye Porsche... hello RS4!
you have been warned by others about the drone.
I have a milltek non-res catback and I honestly can't perceive this drone that others seem to think is excruciating - the only thing I can think of is they are either used to driving electric cars, or they like heavy acceleration from 40kph in 6th gear?
One poster on here previously stated that it would give him blinding headaches?
My point is that, have a listen for yourself, because the only drone I have ever noticed is low in the rev range and very easily removed with the use of a gear shift.
and can I recommend you consider installing a JHM short-shifter. Its USD275 plus 1 hour instal and represents the best bang-for-buck mod you will ever do

Re: Bye bye Porsche... hello RS4!
Milltek was first on the scene producing a performance exhaust for the RS4 that looked "oem" and retained the exhaust valves as a along with a res and non res version, also with a lifetime warranty Milltek was the obvious choice for RS4 owners. This is why the Milltek is raved about so much on here.
But, there has been reports of the Milltek back boxes rusting at the seem welds, it also appears that there are two design types of Milltek back boxes too, an earlier and later type. (I think the earlier types was the ones that rusted).

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: Bye bye Porsche... hello RS4!
I don't get/notice this 'drone' on my non-res Milltek either (Installed for 5-years now), even if i did, the deeply rich yet raspy undertones would more than make up for it. I've owned a few noisy cars, 3 TVR's include and none have illicited as much positive feedback as the Milltek.
The exhaust also muffles down a bit with age, so an even fruitier tone ensues.

Re: Bye bye Porsche... hello RS4!
Cheers Gareth, that is most likely a future mod for sure... Behind the pedals though!!!
Guffy, I guess it's each to their own... I reckon going 2.75" for performance reasons makes sense, just depends on whether I can stretch to £3000 for an MTM or go valveless with another manufacture for under £2k. Either way, I'm in no rush as I've got to find the leak in my bank account first!
Pedals... They HAVE to be done soon as its spoiling the driving experience...
Cheers,
PP

Re: Bye bye Porsche... hello RS4!
You don't need to heel & toe to enjoy driving the RS4!! I could have fun with it without even changing gear, loads of fun to be had in 3rd gear! My money and efforts would be going on the exhaust first, it makes the experience more enjoyable even when just sitting in traffic; your pedals won't.
But each to their own, if that's what you want to do first then good luck.
Anyway, it seems that the people on this forum have gone a little crazy. We are on the 2nd page of this thread and not one person has asked for more details on which car you bought. We want to know colour, spec, mods and body shape but most important of all we need photos!!!!

Hang on a minute, you told me it made it go faster! It does get tricky to see out the windscreen though after a while.Silas wrote:You got to stop spanking the monkey in your car mike, it's wrong!!!You don't need to heel & toe to enjoy driving the RS4!! Totally agree, i recently sold my Porsche albeit only a 996 C4 and really miss it, i would love a 997 Turbo... The RS4 is fantastic and i love mine but nothing drives like a Porsche...gilford wrote:Can I ask why you made the change? A bit of a step down in my opinion!

Yeah, used to do concours prep for Ferrari. Bit scary this one time they asked me to correct a F40 bonnet (red and looked a little oxidised), baring in mind there is so little paint on them that you can see the weave of the carbon fibre panel through the paint :Ssync24 wrote:It's booked into KDS tomorrow - i say goodbye for two weeksesp_mm-270 wrote:I'll do that if you like? I don't really do paint tbh, maybe the odd wing mirror with rattle cans but that's as far as you can go and make it look spot on, maybe the odd partial body panel but its a lottery if the paint matches perfect. No adjoining panel on a wing mirror so if its a little different it wont notice.
edit...
Ps. I did my car for the meet the other weekend with out a sun lamp or paint depth reader so it was looking ok rather then spot on Kev.

Mikefish, I agree, you don't have to heal and toe to enjoy the car but having learned the art I do find it enhaces the experience. There's something very satisfying about blipping the throttle and getting those revs just right coming into a corner!
As for photos, I'm in Hong Kong right now so I haven't had a chance to take any but I do have the advertisement photos (below). The car is totally standard, 06 plate with only 24,000 miles on the clock.
Redrsr... Nice job on the pedal!

Nice looking car - just need to change the steering wheel to a flat bottom one
Going back to exhaust options - the Milly non-res is boomy when first fitted - when i had mine done i did think what the heel have a done, it would give me a headache everythime i drove it. However having had a milly on the S4 i knew it would bed down. No issues now, not boomy at all, unless its labouring around the 2k mark.
It just sounds sublime and as others have said gets a lot of comments.
