After 3 Years in the Wilderness I'm Coming Back Home!

Post by Rich_C » Tue May 28, 2013 7:22 pm

I've spent the last 7 months looking and waiting for the right car. Had a few false starts along the way and a few wasted journeys but finally committed to a car. Is it my perfect spec ... not quite but it's pretty close ... 2010 black saloon, black leather, carbon inlays, 5 spoke triple alloys, keyless entry, 3G nav, TV, adaptive cruise, blinds, power doors, passenger memory ... just missing reverse camera & electric steering column which I can live without. For the first time I've bought a car from a main dealer sight unseen - too far to go even by my standards! Anyway delivery is arranged for this Friday ... the hours are passing very slowly already - I'm not sure how many times I can read the brochure before insanity sets in.

It's got a years Audi warranty so I've promised the better half no mods for at least 12 months - I wonder if man promises are like man maths? - easily adjustable depending on the occasion.

A few quick questions for you learned gents ...

- Does the 3G nav have full post code search or is still 5 digit?
- Does the engine blip the throttle on down shifts ... I kept meaning to check on my various test drives but always forget to listen out being too engrossed in the experience!

Finally for those people who know me from the past on C5 forum all I can say is that you don't know how good it is to be back!!! - the wilderness of vanilla cars is akin to purgatory - I don't want to see another diesel pump for years!

Rich.
(PS - is it Friday yet? :( )
The Present ...
C7 RS6 Avant - Estoril Blue - everything bar B&O - Akrapovic only upgrade (... so far)

The Past ...
C6 RS6 Saloon - Phantom Black - lots of factory extras but no tuning.
C5 RS6 Saloon - Daytona with black Interior - Full Milltek with 100 cpsi cats - AMD Remap - Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers - MTM Bimoto's - Phaeton Brake Upgrade - RNS-E + Bluetooth + Multi-media player + Phatbox
911 (996) Turbo - X50 - Aerokit - PCCB

Welcome to a very exclusive club!!

I couldn't live three years without a performance car in my life....

Great car nice spec

Yes zorst blips on downshifts....and sonic booms on flat out up shifts!!!!

Use stick or paddles for full effect you never get bored of doing it...well I don't!! Lol

I found stock zorst weak...so ditched it for a custom job for the full V10 Lambo effect!!!

High flow filters also a quick mod and you can really feel the difference with them, specially with my zorst too.

I'm only 2g so can't help you on the postcode thing sorry.

Enjoy...hope the dealer doesn't let you down with condition of car?

Trip to dealer (having given them prior warning and usual farce over what flavour of vehicle it is) they bung in update DVD and hey presto some hours later 'tis done.

Cost £160. There's 20% off at the moment.

I can dig out the part no if required.

Thanks, Doodlebug. No need to get the part number, was just curious really. I don't use the nav much.

Nor me, but we're off to France soon and I did not fancy a navigation related farce!

Welcome back to the fold. You will not regret your decision. Swapped my C5 Plus for a C6 in Jan this year and have never looked back. Top advice from RS6Chris - the OEM exhaust does not do the V10 justice at all (@ idle or under pressure) so a change to that is a must (my non res Milltek keeps me smiling every time I drive the beast!). Phantom Black is definitely the fastest colour as well!
Currently floating along in a 2020 Magnetic Grey Bentley Continental GT & bouncing around in a Navarro S3 black edition
2009 C6 Avant NR Milly, MRC Stage 2/gearbox, MTM 21'' bimotos, H&R arb's, KW coil overs, 756ps & 1085 Nm (now in Simon’s safe hands)
C5 RS6+ No 315 in Metallic Silver (gone but never to be forgotten)
S8 V10 awesome engine but taxi-like gearbox - had to get back to RS motoring
C5 RS6 in Avus Silver - the 1st RS experience

Well just 1 more sleepless night to go ... :drink: ... should be here by noon. Genuinely excited now!

Thanks for the info ... disappointing on the nav (ha'porth of tar springs to mind!) ... great news on the downshift blip.

Hope to see you around the Boro Chris - most likely at a petrol station.

Awesome  ... I don't think I need to say anything more!

Car arrived earlier than expected which was a bonus. 30 mins to sort out the paperwork. 30 mins to drop the driver at the railway station. 30 mins to see what the old girl can do. 6 hours cleaning, polishing & waxing in the sun for a change.

So what have I learnt today ...

1) even the wife likes it which is a first for any previous car.
2) Audi's level of prep is exactly as I expected ... hopeless! ... :audibash:
3) Audi's definition of pristine isn't the same as mine :bash: ... couple of minor dings and scratches but that didn't spoil the party!
4) the car is much more mature/civilised compared to my old C5 ... the game really has moved on!
5) power delivery is so linear - lord knows what a stage 2 700hp tune must feel like
6) musn't lift the door handles to check if the car is locked!
7) love the exhaust bark as it hits 6000 rpm
8) must remember the bottom of the steering wheel is flat when turning! ... saves on embarassing learner driveresque hand flapping.
9) must read manual before attempting voice commands.
