Car changes update!
Re: Car changes update!
I found the same problem Johnny and so went down the route of getting my Aluminium Trim replaced. Very happy with the results and looking forward to the rest of the changes being applied too

Re: Car changes update!
Thanks for the colour codes, interesting website too! Your re-trim looks great and really lifts the interior. I have always found black headlining, black leather and black carbon trim to be a bit...... black?
Each to their own and that but personally I really like the contrast between the two types of leather.
Your car reminds me of the exclusive interior fitted to AdrianD's car that were posted last month.
My car came with comfort seats trimmed in silver silk nappa and carbon trim from the factory. After two years of owning the car I can honestly say I don't have a problem with the comfort seats, they are better for 95% of the time. Easier to get in and out of, the bolsters don't wear as much if you are not careful and dare I say it, they look slightly classier in an understated kind of way?
Having said all that for the 5% of the time when you are really on it, you will really, really wish the person that bought the car new had ticked the bloody bucket seat option!
So that is why I have bought a set of buckets from a nice man on this forum. Just waiting to have them re-trimmed in silver nappa and then looking forward to bedding them in.
I had the same seats in cloth in my previous car so looking forward to going around corners without having to wedge knee against centre console/cling on to the steering wheel/grab the jesus handle again.
Will phone up VW tomorrow to price up a pair of black seatbacks.
Might keep the comforts in storage for when I need a zimmer.

A quick glimpse of my Avant with a similar colour combination, silver nappa leather (although comfort seats) and door cards with piano black inserts and silver headlining all seem to compliment each other nicely....
Re: Car changes update!
Looks well Johnny definitely brightens up the interior

Re: Car changes update!
Looks spot on
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: Car changes update!
Let me know how you get on with the seat backs Coffey
do they fit on the back of the bucket seats and if so do you have any links or pics?

Re: Car changes update!
Well not good news, VW want £852 for each seat back! I think the back is the load bearing part of the seat, the padding and leathers then attach to this, hence the cost.
I sold my R32 to my mate when I bought the Audi and he has been talking about selling it for a while now. Might try to do a swap with him if he does finally sell it on.
If not, it might be possible to get them wrapped?
Will try and get him to take pictures so you can see what gloss black looks like.

Re: Car changes update!
Cheers buddy, I inquired about wrapping mine and they said they could do it but the leather would then be bonded to the wrap and wouldn't hold up for very long and might get mean the wrap started to lose adhesion as well. Argon do carbon fibre skin wraps for seats for less than the VW quote and they a pretty sweet!
Re: Car changes update!
Carbon you say? I have carbon trim already.............. Will see how it looks with the standard seat backs first but that might be a winner!

Re: Car changes update!
Thanks for the link, I had just been looking at nij's and teutonic tuner's cars and was thinking how nice they both looked!
Argon are not too far away from me either.
Tissues definitely required, good job carbon is easy wipe

Cool Nij, I am trying to find out if they can do them in GRP and bring them up to a Piano Gloss finish at the minute as well as a couple of other projects with them. Got my feelers out for the seat backs in all directions at the minute to finish off the interior look so first one to come up with the right answer in my budget wins
hehe

Re: Car changes update!
If you want your seat back to be finished in Piano Gloss Black, then I’m sure you’ll not need GRP or Carbon Fibre. All you’ll need is to key the back of the seats with 180 grit paper, spray on a coat of epoxy resin then a few coat of Piano Black Gel Coat when it’is still tacky. Either finishes off with 3 layer of lacquer or a lot of elbow grease with very fine wet and dry, then machine polish to a shine.

Yep Virdee are looking into it for me at the moment to see if they can achieve the same great finish they achieved on my steering wheel
