Range Rover Sport or RS6

Post by GHH123 » Wed May 08, 2013 8:36 am

Not finalised my RS6 order yet since dealer trying to get more info on the winter tyre option.

Given me time to ponder whether I should get a Sport instead.

Logic is I want 5 sweater four wheel drive and not spoilt for choice. The next generation AMG Mercs could be sensational since will have four wheel drive for RHD.

Trouble with the RS6 is that it is a compromise car. Sensationally fast but is that enough to compensate for the regal sense of well being a Range Range generates. The new Sport is meant to handle well, not much heavier than the RS6, and when road conditions bad will be sensational. And not much slower with Supercharger.

I've just swapped my 991C2S for an RS4 (need the space) so will see how I get on next few days. If a massive come down iI'll probably switch order to the Sport.

Mate has a Sport, can't say I like it. Build quality for me is so so. Does not float my boat and generally screams chav/tosser, IMO.

Full fat Range is more like it, but still not overly keen.

I kind of like the Cayenne but it still had a bit of the tosser factor.

Real world the RS6 will be infinitely quicker, there's no comparison there.

Don't buy the Range Rover sport yet, there is a version of it coming along that my friend who works for them in developmen is working on, it'll be quite special. Don't want to say more than that as don't want to get him in trouble. They have this arc bar thingi, makes them handle really really well for their size, I've been out in a few of the new ones. They are nothing like an RS 6 at all.

I think that's what the OP means...The New RR Sport

It's a tough decision as they're quite a similar proposition. The 6 will be faster & more dynamic, but as you say the RR Sport a grander affair. Thing is there will be gazillions of them on the road pretty soon; not like the 6.

If you've the cash defo the 6

I think Amar means there will be some kind of extra sporty (!?) RRS. Probably means more skirts and trivets. As you say there will be hundreds of them in no time.

RRS and the ring aren't two things one would normally mention in the same sentence!

RRS and taste & class are another 3 things never stated in the same sentence. I would have neither.

One is a 'builder done good' prperty developer gezeers wet dream, and the other is £100k's worth of the automotive equivalent of The Gettysburg Address.

I bought a C5 new for £60k back in the day, good car. I then bought a C7 for £60k 8 months old which had listed at £80k+....dull beyond measure.

How Audi can charge £100k approx for the latest 'bloater', which will lose £30k immediately, is simply a tax on the feckless.

Driven the RS4 now and think Press summed it up well. Lacks driver involvement.

I bought it because needed more space and decent 4X4's are scarce. An AMG Merc C or E Class would have been ideal if 4X4 but will have to wait for next model to get RHD.

A Panamera GTS only other choice and the RS6 makes this look expensive and pedestrian!

So assuming the RS6 similar to RS4 re lack of driver interaction the issue re Sport versus RS6 boils down to phenomenal acceleration versus sense of well being.

Having had a couple of the latest GTR's speed alone is not enough. I much prefered the slower 991 that followed.

So although I enjoy the Warp speed option (actually I love it!) I'm now pretty convinced that the Sport will ring more bells rather than the more one dimensional RS6. And early Press reports indicate it might handle or at least steer better than the RS6! The steering on the RS4 horribly unnatural.

I can not think of a C6 owner who would swap for a range rover - Chalk & cheese. Thought you had to owner a shed load of corduroy & moleskin to go down the range rover route?

It's interesting some think the RR has hold of the green wellie market, and some think they are owned by those who specialise in concrete ones. By default that probably makes it classless, no? I can't think of many car brands that occupy a specific demographic these days. Even Jags seem to be losing the golf club image.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6
